I dont have the figures from the rest of Europe but the USA actually imports from France more than it exports, the reason I mention it is that EADS (the parent company of Airbus) is French-German. The Airbus Aircraft are built in Toulouse France.

But Regardless, the USA doesnt want a trade war on this issue. Thats the point of free trade, sometimes we win sometimes we lose.

In this case the Europeans proposed a better, cheaper, aircraft than Boeing. Last Month it was Lockheed Martin that beat the French to an F-16 sale to Moracco. Besides Boeing doesnt have to much competition on the US domestic market so this will motivate them to be better next time. That last thing we need are lazy monopolies. Competition drives Innovation.

The point is we have to accept that we are going to lose some deals, even at home. We we start to interfere with deals simply because the customer decided not to by American than nobody is going to want to trade with us.

UPDATE

McCain presidential advisor lobbied for EADS. McCain probably isnt not going to be too popular in Seattle...

Yes. I don't want Boeing to have a monopoly on arming the US military or they will make crappier platforms for higher prices.
