I've worn American Double Buckle, American Jump boots, German Jack Boots, and Russian Jack Boots.

I would have to say that the American Jump Boot was the best out of the one's I have worn.

From best to worst.
1) US Jump boots
2) German Jack Boots
3) US Double Buckle Boots
4) Russian Jack Boots

The Soviet boots sucked, the upper half of the calf is made out of tarred canvas.

For WWII reenacting, I use either a pair of "captured" german jack boots or a set of American ankle boots with the leg wraps.

Definitely U.S. jump boots. I own a nice pair of repros. Regular infantry tried to get their hands on 'em and the airborne complained when the double-buckle came out.

By the way, I haven't posted for a while, thought I'd work my way back into the forums on this topic. Should be around more often though. :m1: Pop
