1- Well, that has nothing to do with the woman or the reasoning behind her actions, but if you insist...1)My apologies then... I figured you addressed what you wanted to be discussed in your post... I'd like to address Central Ohio Technical College, but I felt that would be off topic.
2)I direct you to "kids who are having underage sex"... If a 15 year old who has had sex finds this book, he might just want to try some of it out. You don't have to be in the 3rd grade to be considered a kid.....
3)Again... 4th grade still equals child. I'm not worried about 9 year olds... I'm worried about 13,14,15 year olds who are just daring and stupid enough to try it... PROBABLY without any sort of protection. I agree it's the parent's job, but since when are parents perfect? If we left parents to their own devices without any sort of regulation or standard, we'd have a lot more f**ked up people in this world.
Of course. We sure do like to fight about sex here. Yikes!
How much more "on topic" do you want? Here's the quote lifted directly from the article "The Lord slapped me in the face with this book," she said.Yes, but not to the topic itself.
Only showing that just because it was in the link doesn't mean it's relevant to the discussion. It's neither here nor there...1- Well, that has nothing to do with the woman or the reasoning behind her actions, but if you insist...
And on this, I agree with you. Schools SHOULD teach more safe sex than abstinence... We've had this discussion before... But this was not "The Birds and The Bees: An Educational Reference Of Sexual Education"... This was "Kama Sutra 2.0: Learn The Best Positions To Maximize Pleasure."2&3-At that point if the kid attends public school he's been hit over the head with abstinence talk so much it's doubtful the lack of a book's presence is going to slow him down. It's about freedom of information, or does that not apply to minors?
Christianity is NOT the topic of this thread. The title reads "Censorship!" not "Christianity!"How much more "on topic" do you want? Here's the quote lifted directly from the article "The Lord slapped me in the face with this book," she said.
I merely pointed it that this immediately threw the legitimacy of the whole question into doubt as it was the ravings of another typical christian nut case.
It's just not on your topic because it shows christianity in it's true light.
Don't get me started on your grammar... *rolls eyes*"Ohhh, Laaaawddy, laaawdy Rob,... don't slap me in the face with another of your brilliant interpretations"
Not on topic,.... pbbbttt. You must be getting sillier than she is Rob.
Except that won't matter much. I learned how to make bombs in chemistry class.....If the library should censor anything it shouldn't be sex - it should be "make you own bomb at home" books (in my opinion). Anyway, people are going to get their hands on whatever they want in one way or another. Sex is not dirty and evil and it shouldn't be "censored" to adults.
Oh well. I guess some folks are insecure in their sexuality. We sure do like to fight about sex here. Yikes!
Yes, it's not a sex ed book, but it is neither labeled as one nor in a section where any kid would be likely to look. And, a kid looking for such a book would be very unlikely to pick this book up, and I know if it were my kid he wouldn't make it out of the library alive carrying it. But if a child does, it is not the fault of the library, it's the fault of the parent who signed the slip saying they were responsible for what their child took out of the library. And on this, I agree with you. Schools SHOULD teach more safe sex than abstinence... We've had this discussion before... But this was not "The Birds and The Bees: An Educational Reference Of Sexual Education"... That's NOT the kind of information a minor needs.
But we can't discuss one without the other as in this case christianity is clearly shown to be part of the cause of the dispute. It is as much a part of the debate as Libraries, Librarians, books, morals, and public perceptions of all the above. Would you care to explain how any debate can be resolved if we are limited by not being able to discuss the causative factors?Christianity is NOT the topic of this thread. The title reads "Censorship!" not "Christianity!"
Because,... although we may agree on the solution, we disagree as to the root cause of the complaint in this case. I know,... it must really disappoint you to see that Atheists have morals at least as good as christians,... and what's more, our reasons are far more logical. It's interesting that you've made ONE reference to the book, and I agreed with you on it... And yet you still feel compelled to argue. Why?
In the US we have this disturbing notion that if we pretend sex doesn't exist kids won't find out about it. Of course, this is insane, but it seems to be the way we run things here anymore. All this does is give us kids that act even more immature and are more likely to make mistakes.
Are you saying that without this book on public display, adults will never learn about reproduction? No offence to Americans but that is just obsurd! As you have said it increases the chance of people being immature when it comes to sex and what if children like never understand it so don't it? You'll have no kids. lol.
I think that the truth is that kids today are no different to what they always have been, no smarter no dumber, it's just that their skill sets are different due to the technology of the day.Yall want to know something? I've been watching this thread and reading it and all I can say is censorship is part of the problem with this world. We all know sex is real like it or not, believe it exists or not, kids (under 18) WILL have sex, its a known fact that most or us adults try to conceal, well guess what, it should be up to the parents of the kids to decide what the watch and read, not the govt.
personally I don't believe in censorship, and I have 2 sons who know right from wrong too, because I don't censor anything from them.
Kids now day know more than anybody thinks, and believe it or not there's a lot of them who practice common sense.
Common sense works way better than censorship
They may not understand it, but they can figure out it feels good.No offence to Americans but that is just obsurd! As you have said it increases the chance of people being immature when it comes to sex and what if children like never understand it so don't it? You'll have no kids. lol.
This is a fantastic post, and supports what I've been saying. Glad to be on your side of an argument for once, Wolfen :thumb:Yall want to know something? In my view, the debate has nothing to do with whether kids are any better prepared for parenthood, but do they need to know these things as children? For the same reasons that, although sex is a normal human behaviour, "porn" is not normally regarded as suitable for children.
When adults engage in sex, do they invite the kids in to watch? Just as sex is not normally a children's spectator sport, there is no need to display some printed material to minors.
As for common sense being involved, if I had a a dollar for every bloke I've known who allowed his brain to gravitate to the end of his willy, I'd be wealthier than all the members of Milforum put together. The desire for sex is probably the single strongest human urge, it outweighs common sense by at least a hundred to one. When sex is on the horizon, the first thing to go out the window is usually common sense, so I certainly wouldn't rely on that. It doesn't work with adults, so i don't see how kids are going to deal with it any better.
It is rare isn't it AT least were friends even though we seldom agree LOLThey may not understand it, but they can figure out it feels good.

My own personal impression is that adults have a tendency to forget just how much they knew at a young age.True, but what right do I have to decide what YOUR children do and don't do, or know and don't know?
THATS my main point, kids today don't know any more or less about sex than we did as kids.
My own personal impression is that adults have a tendency to forget just how much they knew at a young age.
Yes,.... I do. In fact it's an obligation upon good parents which in law is called a "Duty of Care". In this state, parents can be charged with several offences including "Reckless endangerment" for not protecting children against all manner of things from exposure to porn, underaged drinking to truancy.True, but what right do I have to decide what YOUR children do and don't do, or know and don't know?
But when you grew up, finding books such as this on the Library shelves was not a possibility. I guess you managed to find out about such things without them? Which I guess just goes to show, that they are not necessary, especially in public libraries where they can be accessed by children.THATS my main point, kids today don't know any more or less about sex than we did as kids.
perhaps that is because once they have actually seen some of life they realise how wrong their ideas were about such things. My own personal impression is that adults have a tendency to forget just how much they knew at a young age.

If you want to have children, the least you can do is attempt to look after them and not expose them to needless risk.

Experience only comes with time, something that kids are very short on. Every kid thinks they are the first to be as smart as they are. This is only the result of their inexperience,.... it's called immaturity.
You are getting off track, but yes, you do have an obligation to attempt to save all others from their own stupidity or lack of experience.but do I have a right to say what kids do in somebody else's house? No I do not, that's the responsibility of the parents of the children, I have my own house to run.
There's a difference between censorship for the good of society and needless interference, and it appears that you can't be bothered trying to work out the difference in every case. Obviously you have your thoughts about the subject you mention above, and have elected to try to shield your daughter from it. You wicked censor.I have kids, they do what I tel them to do I don;t have to censor things from them cause if I tell either of them no, that means no and they obey me and their mother. When I was growing up is when censorship took off again in the U.S, but the censorship they have nowadays is total b******t, have you seen Hansel and Gretel lately? now days those two are Juvenal delinquents that harass a nice old lady. And don't even get me started on Little Red Riding Hood, Peta will have a field day with me if they read what I have to say about that. Basically there's a line between a parents rights and govt control, and now days we have no rights, the govt tells us what we can and can not do with our children, I got totally against censorship back when I saw my first politically correct cartoon.

Growing older is obligatory, adulthood is purely optional.
