In Ottawa story headlined "Canadian soldier killed, 4 injured in Afghan crash" please read in the second paragraph "...Braun Woodfield..." instead of "...Brian Woodfield..." (Corrects first name; adds where soldier from)

A corrected repetition follows: (Adds details of accident)

OTTAWA, Nov 24 (Reuters) - A Canadian soldier based in Afghanistan was killed and four others were injured when their light armored vehicle rolled over near the city of Kandahar, defense officials said on Thursday.

Private Braun Woodfield, 24, from Victoria, British Columbia, was the eighth member of the Canadian forces to die in Afghanistan since Ottawa sent troops there as part of the U.S.-led war on terror.

Officials said the soldiers -- three of whom were seriously injured -- had been on a routine patrol in the vehicle when the accident occurred. It was dark at the time.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of these Canadian forces members," Defence Minister Bill Graham announced in Parliament. Legislators then held a minute's silence in honor of the victim.

Canada is boosting its presence in Afghanistan and by next February will have 1,500 soldiers in the war-torn Central Asian country, some charged with hunting down members of al-Qaeda and the former ruling Taliban.

Both Graham and Gen. Rick Hillier, chief of the defense staff, have warned Canadians that the more aggressive role for the troops in Afghanistan could result in higher casualties.
