You can thank the military for that.

In the history of human armed conflict, even in peace time, innovations have been made that let's face it, influence daily life in many places of the world, the idea of this thread came to me from simply driving on the interestate, a product of the Eisenhower's administration for use in case of a Soviet Attack on the United States, similar to what the impact of railroads had in the American Civil War.

From the refinement of aviation technologies, to the advance in rocket technology to complete new innovations. Any example of military hardware, software or wartime train of thought that impacts civilian life today, I would be glad to hear your example, and simply surprising how numerous they are.

Just a thread for interest.

Eummm, this thread looks dead...

Okay, I share.

Internet. Internet was developped by the military as they were looking for a dencentralised system of communication capable of surviving a nuclear blast and still be able to communicate as long as there is two connected computers in a working state.

Thanks the military, now we can download porn anytime, anyday... Thank you so much...

I wasnt ironic or anything. We have to thank the military for the invention of Internet.

It may seem that I'm mocking the military, but it wasnt the case... I just think that it's funny. The most wonderful communication tool mankind ever made... And we are using it to exchange naughty videos... Hilarious. Hopefully, we are using for many other different things...

But if you want a real advance you can feel... Then this about health care. And in particular when it comes to trauma.

The survival rate of wounded soldiers, and human beings in general is increasing with time and advances of science. In WWI you had only 20% chances to survive a battle injury. They are now above 95%. You can take flak, shrapnels, bullets, and if you reach a trauma unit in time, they can still fix you up.

Isnt that magic? Just think about penicillin to stop infections. Or all the pain blockers (morphine etc)... No need to bite on a piece of wood while a surgeon, looking like a butcher is cutting your leg to prevent infections...

The list is huge... They can now pull shrapnels from your eye restoring your vision... Crazy...
