Calls for Rush Limbaugh to be kicked off AFN

First off, I despise el Rushbo. I have never liked him. However, the media is 100% two faced when it comes to what Limbaugh said. There have been several liberal men, David Letterman, Ed Shultz, and Bill Maher to name 3, have been guilty of calling women derogatory names. The media outrage for those liberal men were weak in comparison to the reaction Limbaugh leading me to declare a double standard.

I think the calls for him to be removed from AFN is a overreaction. Any other views on this mess?

That a Liberal reproductive rights activist chose to attend a Catholic school is no fluke! A deliberate trap for republicans that Rush stepped in. He was right to call someone a slut who publicly say they're having so much sex they're going bankrupt, but calling her a prostitute was over the line. Liberals often call Conservatives worse & The Media ignores it.

Its not quite the samething.

Letterman and Mahar are comedians. The jokes they tell are to get a cheap laugh and they generally target everyone (gays, women, minorities) which is why its tolerated. What they said is not meant to be serious. They also mainly target celebrities and public officials, not private citizens speaking on serious topics.

Limbaugh is not a comedian, he's a political commentator, hes not even a real journalist. Furthermore Limbaugh is a hater. He hates women, he hates minorities, hates the poor, hates people who disagree with him, hates everyone that isn't like him. He says things to injury people, not to make them laugh or that he gets carried away. The guy has a real chip on his shoulder.

Yes people like Olbermann and Matthews can say things that are alittle off color (and they should get wrist slapped for that), but there isn't the vitrolic hatred that you get from listening to Limbaugh, its like listening to a Adolf Hitler speech in the 1930s.

I think he should be kicked off AFN because of the way he disparages the President of the United States, not because of the latest flap. We all knew Rush is a sexist pig, I think he just doesn't like women at all, he certainly has very little respect for them.

BTW -He opened his fat mouth again recently when he called NASCAR Driver Danica Patrick "that woman driver".

I know nothing about military life, but I would imagine openly criticizing the commander in chief is a big no-no while wearing the uniform. I could certainly expect to be fired from my job if I did that about my boss. So why on earth do we have a person who does that 24/7 on a military network? It makes no sense.

And yes, the same rule would apply to liberal broadcasters as well. I don't think it would be conductive to military moral/discipline to have Olbermann or Matthews blasting a Republican president over AFN either.

I don't know if this is the case anymore (so correct me if I am wrong), but it used to be the case that AFN would only broadcast Rush with no counterbalance from the left.

(Actually come to think of it...I think Ed Schultz is now on AFN).

If soldiers want political junk food let them get it on their own volition there no problem there, but don't forcefeed hateful people like Rush Limbaugh.

Rush really isn't a hater, you guys just hate what he says. If you want to hear hate, try Air America, oops it's belly up.

He may be pompous and boisterous, but he pursues and illustrates issues at far more intellectual depth than the average internet poster.
A good many limit theirs to the depth of an oil slick.
A hater he is not. His command of English is superb.
A woman claiming 1000 annual expenses for contraception which is free at planned parenthood invites certain comments.
Folks who graduate from her program start at $160,000.

Sorry big boy .. B U T !

  • Rush may have a somewhat above average grasp of the English language (many people do) .. however, he is NOT an intellectual.
  • Many of the internet posters that I follow, are very well informed on many issues (some better informed than Rush).
  • As far as an oil slick, most of the time Rush's arguments are at the gutter level .. which is the next best thing to an oik slick

  • As far as being a hater, it is obvious to anyone with an open mind, that Rush hates just about everything (other than himself) .. and, I am not positive that he doesn't also hate himself.
As to your comments about the young lady who was testifying before Congress, her testimony had more to do with women having the right to expect contraceptives to be treated the same as any medicine that you or I receive a prescription for - let's face it, YOU can receive a script for Viagra .. but, under some insurance programs, a woman can not receive one for a contraceptive.

BTW - YOU WERE NO BETTER THAN RUSH WHO ATTACKED A WOMAN AND CALLED HER NAMES - (YOU HINTED THAT SHE DESERVED THE COMMENTS THAT RUSH MADE). THIS FORUM IS NO DIFFERENT THAN THE OPEN AIRWAVES THAT RUSH BROADCASTS ON.

George

Did you ever listen to Air America? Have you ever listened to Limbaugh?

Criticizing the President, Republicans, Democrats, conservatives, liberals is not a hate speech as long as you don't demonize them.

However Telling a black female caller "to take the bone out of her nose", wishing we could bring back segregation on buses, saying "slavery had its merits", saying "the NFL resembles a battle between the Blood and the Crips" his continual disparaging of women, and my personal favorite..a personal attack on Chelsea Clinton when she was 13 years old.

You really going to tell me hes not a hater? Take off the blinders and stop apologizing for this cockroach.

Of course I don't like what Rush says and it has nothing to do that he's a conservative. There are plenty of media conservatives I respect like David Frum, Ross Dalhout, and Kathleen Parker. I don't agree with them, but they don't float in the cesspool with Limbaugh. BTW, both Parker and Frum LOATH Rush Limbaugh.

I don't like him because hes a mean-spirited, racist, male chauvinist pig who makes money by appealing to peoples basest instincts. That's why I don't like him, that's why MOST people in America don't like him.

CHIEF BONES

I think you right about that. I think the person Limbaugh despises the most is himself.

Air America wasn't on around here, but have heard clips from Liberal Talk via various sources. Have listened to Rush quite a bit over the years. Haven't heard of most of the things you are atributing to him, except comments about Chelsea when her parents used her for making political points. Haven't heard of frum or Dalhout, Ms Parker seems to have moved Left from Conservativism. Most who don't like him are liberals or people who have never listened but have heard the usual comments in the Media. Personaly my favorite is Libertarian Neal Boortz, with Rush & Hannity not too far behind. If you want an example of a boorish talk show host it's Savage.

You know what the problem is? None of those guys are journalists, not a single one. They are political opinion shows. Are you familiar with the expression "opinions are like a**holes, everyone has got one and nobody thinks theirs stinks".

The fact they are not journalists means they can say whatever they please, actual facts be damned. And they lie incessantly. Real journalist have certain standards they to abide by, they cannot lie because if they do their companies will fire them.

David Frum was George W Bush Speech writer. He writes an op-ed piece on many newspapers, like the Daily Beast. Kathleen Parker is the conservative voice on the WP, and David Brooks and Ross Relhout do the same for the NYT.

and heres only a partial list of all the nasty, stupid, insentive things Rush has said:

Parker is in the local paper & most of her comments for a while now aren't all that Conservative. As far as accuracy is concerned Rush has a better batting avg than the TV News, who are in Obama's pocket for the most part.

Parker is a traditional conservative ala Ronald Reagan mode. Its isnt Parker thats changed, its conservatives who have gotten more and more extreme, thanks to Knuckleheads like Rush Limbaugh.

Are they all that stupid that they cant chose their words more carefully knowing that what ever they say is going to be picked to bits. Knowing this then why use such words that they know will cause offence, then they expect to be elected into high office and speak for the country, and if this is the best they can do, should they office at all let alone become top man.

I have listened to Limbaugh for years and cannot, in any way, remember a single thing he has ever said that can be construed as hate.

If I missed it, please present some specific examples.

I think Rush is FAR MORE educated than 90% of the graduates of our liberal university system. And, almost every single one of his points is backed up by the actual words spoken by the individuals he discusses. The same holds true to laws and regulations.

I also don't think he "hates" Obama. In fact, I share his view that our current president is, by far, the most unqualified, inadequate, and dangerous chief executive this nation has ever had! He is doing everything in his power to turn us into a socialist/progressive nation.

I also personally think that his "office mike" comments to the Russian President shows me that he is not only all of the above, but nearly traitorous.:drill:

Boyo ...

You must have listened to a different Rush than the one the rest of us listened to, since over 50% of the stuff that I heard coming out of Rush's mouth WAS blatant hate (or something that was masquerading as hate).

Rush has made a living dishing out negative entertainment .. so, how in the world can you even entertain the fiction of a Rush who is against everything without a wisp of blatant hatred.

As far as Rush being 'far more' educated, I served with men who were drafted who make Rush look like a grade school dropout. The veneer of education doesn't excuse Rush's blatant biases either.

Where the President is concerned, while I don't agree with everything that he has done since his inauguration, Obama has had to overcome a lot of racism, including the racism that has been a hallmark of Rush Limbaugh and his blockhead supporters (Dittoheads). Are you one of them???

BTW - can you remember the negative atmosphere that existed during most of Bush Jr's administration??? Most of the rest of the world viewed America the same way that Japanese and Germans were viewed during WWII, with suspicion and worse. Now (because of Obama and his cabinet members), America's reputation has undergone an almost 180 degree turnabout.

The ONLY way that you can have the opinions you have articulated, is for you to have turned a blind eye and a deaf ear to world events and to Rush's biases - so much for the possibility you have an open mind.

I mean no disrespect, but to say that Rush doesn't peddle hatred is to be completely deaf, dumb, and blind.

This was man who makes millions demonizing people in the same manner that Josef Goebbels did so in the 1930s.
Nobody demonizes his political adversaries more than Limbaugh left or right, and if you don't think that is hatred, I can't explain it to you any further...nobody can.

You want examples how about some of the kind things he has said? That's very easy:

1. About Obama: "A halfrican American", "the Magic Negro", and his whole repititoire of insults: "communist, socialist, muslim...".
2. Told a female Black caller "take the bone out of your nose and call me back!"
3. Called the NFL "a battle between the Bloods and Crips".
4. Called Chelsea Clinton (age 13) "the White house dog".
5. Made fun of Michael J Fox Parkinsons disease because he supported stem cell research
6. Called a woman a "slut" and "a prostitute" because she dared suggest that contraception be covered by insurence.
7. Claimed Blacks were teaching their kids to hate America
8. Called soldiers that criticized the Iraq war "Phony soldiers"
9. Calls women who don't subscribe to Rush quaint views as "Feminazis"

Do I really need I go on? Or shall I begin with the stupid and erroneous things Rush has said. If you think this college drop out is somehow smarter than 90% of university students that too displays remarkable amount of ignorance on your part. A small suggestion: One doesn't demonstrate superior intelligence by sneering at the better educated.

Again I don't mean to sound disrespectful. But your comments show either an astonishing amount of ignorance, either that, or you are simply an apologist.
We are in a very polarized political atmosphere especially in the media, and the person who chiefly got us here wasn't Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Keith Olbermann, Glenn Beck, or Bill Maher. It was Rush Limbaugh. Rush hate track has been going on 25 years, ever since he was going under the name Jeff Christie.

One final thing, I am not a Democrat nor that great a fan of Obama. I think Obama has made some bad decisions and has come across as a weak leader and ineffective leader even against the racism, disrespect, nastiness and bullying he has received from the rightwing. That being said: he is 100,000 Times better than the last Republican we had in the White House. Nobody, not even Obama, caused a greater clusterf**k than the GOP did last decade. Obama doesn't even come close to that level of suckage.

You guy are the haters, you demonize groups & individuals. You invented "Borking". You guys are the ones calling Republicans Nazis, proving you either don'y know Republicans, or Nazis, or both. 180% turn, yeah now the World is amazed @ the incompetance, from The World Apology Tour, on & on. Nobody is trying to stop Obama's exrteme Left policys because he black, it's because of his extreme Leftist policys, remember how we Republicans gleefully passed ClintonCare because Clinton was White??? No I don't remember that either.

1. Insults like "Communist"..ummm the day after the election the Communist Party-USA website posted that they had won because there was now a Communist in the White House, they seem to know Obama better than you do.
5. Micheal J. Fox got attacked for trying to use his Parkinsons for partisan politics, endorsing Dems who voted for research but not Reps who also voted for it. Doing such means he just another player in the game w/o immunity.
6. He called her a slut & Pro not for wanting contraception to be covered by Insurance, but for admitting she was going bankrupt paying for birth controll from how many guys she was bedding.
7. Blacks were given courses that supposedly was to increase their self esteem, but the lesson were basicly lies that they had everything stolen from them by Whites. How this could do anything but increase hatred of whites is hard to follow.
Sean plays, or used to play, vile commentary left by Liberals & Glenn Beck certainly has been targeted by Leftist hate
. Obama is 10,000 times better than Bush, ect., ect Detachment from reality. this clown is a disaster. Obama ripped Bush for doubling the debt in 8 years, he doubles it again in less than 2. Bush was a huge dissapointment primarily because the was a Big Govt type you guys would have loved if he had a D after his name. Perhaps in France all you see is his speaches, but his actions are way Left of what he says, Wool is definatly pulled over a lot of peoples eyes. Socialist cesspool here we come if the guy gets elected. Any Republican could do a better job of not wrecking the country than this person. And I don't believe Ms Clinton would have been any better.

George

1. You have just proven what I have always said about right-wingers. That you will believe anything you are told that fits into your preconceived notions, regardless what the actual facts are. A communist states something on their website and that automatically makes Obama a Communist.

The KKK stated that THEY were responsible for the 2010 mid-term elections, ergo that make every Republican a member of the Ku Klux Klan? Thats YOUR Logic, not mine.

5. You obviously never saw the ad, the difference is I have. Fox doesn't mention anything to do about politics or the Democrats in it, he merely urges people to support Stem cell research. The Fox is a democrat is no grounds to attack him. Only a Republican would consider a person who trying to bring public attention to cure a delibitating disease as a political target.

6. And that justifies him called her a "slut" right? Once again, the nastiness from the rightwing shows itself, insulting people they disagree is your answer to everything. BTW since 99% of women use contraception Rush is calling ALL women as "sluts" and "prostitutes" as well. Or perhaps women just shouldn't have sex at all?

7. One doesn't automatically equate the other, and are you denying historical fact. It was people like Rush who put blacks in the situation they are now in today, do you honestly expect Blacks to be glad for it? Typical Republican thinking: mistreat minorities and make sure all employment, education, social opportunities in America are denied to them, and then vilify them if minorities actually get angry about it. The fact is you see FAR more hatred of whites hating Blacks in American than the other way around.

Maybe if Republicans actually did something to help Black people and stopped persecuting them, they wouldn't have to fear "the angry black man" that Rush likes to rail against.

8. Listening to Republicans complain about spending is like listening to Saddam complain about human rights. In 50 years the GOP has never managed to pass a balanced budget, not one.single.time. Practice what you preach then we will listen. You complain about Obama's spending, but whitewash your own which is what that got us into this situation in the very beginning. You have no credibility on this subject.

Tell me George, how many jobs did the 2 Bush Millionaire taxcuts actually create? In this country, I am not talking about Indonisia. The fact is that while Obama did increase spending the economic situation has vastly improved. Obama created more jobs in 15 months than Bush did in 8 years. GDP is way up, the Dow is over 13000, Osama is dead, so is Allawi.

I have a Andrew Jackson that says I can name 2 accomplishments Obama has done, for one you think Bush has done. I will guerentee you I'll win that bet easily.
