Brig. gen. wounded in Iraq bomb attack

An Army brigadier general was wounded in a roadside attack Monday morning in northern Baghdad, according to Multi-National Forces-Iraq officials.
Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Dorko is the highest-ranking American officer to be hurt in Iraq since the conflict began in March 2003, according to an Associated Press report.
Dorko’s injuries were not life-threatening, but he was evacuated to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, MNFI spokesman Spec. Charles Espie told Army Times. He is listed in stable condition.
A second soldier wounded in the attack was treated and released, said Espie, who did not release the identity of the soldier.
Dorko took command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Gulf Region Division on Oct. 10.
He was riding in a convoy when the bomb detonated at 9:40 a.m., Espie said. Members of the British security firm Erinys International were accompanying the convoy. They evacuated Dorko and the other wounded soldier to a combat support hospital in the Green Zone, Espie said.
Another Army brigadier general was wounded in a similar attack in August 2005 in Afghanistan. Army Reserve Brig. Gen. T. Patterson Maney spent more than a year at an Army hospital recovering from his injuries before returning home to Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
