A Fort Bragg soldier is a person of interest in the death of a pregnant soldier found inside her hotel room last week.
The soldier is a student at the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School, said Lt. Col. John Clearwater, a spokesman for the school. Service members from across the military learn special operations tactics at the school.
Clearwater said the soldier has not been charged and would not disclose the soldier’s name.
He said Fayetteville police believe the soldier could be connected to the death of Spc. Megan Lynn Touma, 23, whose body was found in a room at the Fairfield Inn on June 21.
Touma, an Army dental specialist, arrived in Fayetteville on June 12 after reassignment from the U.S. Army Dental Clinic in Bamberg, Germany, according to a news release issued by Fort Bragg.
Police have not ruled her death a homicide, but have labeled it “suspicious.”
The cause of her death is not known.
Earlier this week, a person claiming to be her killer sent a letter to the Fayetteville Observer. The letter stated that the person had killed before and would kill again. The bottom of the letter included a drawing of a circle with a cross drawn through it — a symbol used by a serial killer in California in the late 1960s.
Fayetteville police have said they believe the letter could be a red herring designed to distract investigators from the investigation.
