KABUL, Afghanistan — A suicide car bomber rammed his vehicle into a NATO military convoy in the eastern city of Jalalabad at midday on Saturday, killing one NATO soldier and wounding six others.
Among the wounded were three soldiers and three civilians, local government officials said.
“One soldier from the friendly forces, coalition forces, has been killed and six others, including three civilians, have been wounded in this attack,” said Muhammad Hashim Ghamsharik, spokesman and adviser to the provincial governor. No women or children were among the wounded, he said.
A NATO spokesman, Brig. Gen. Carlos Manuel Martins Branco, confirmed only that four soldiers had been wounded. He did not release their nationalities. The NATO force in eastern Afghanistan consists mostly of American soldiers.
In other violence, a district governor was shot dead outside his home in the southeastern province of Zabul.
A Taliban spokesman said the group claimed responsibility for the shooting, and he said the governor had been killed because of his government position. He promised more assassinations.
