AP - A powerful bomb on the Spanish resort island of Mallorca killed two police officers in their patrol vehicle Thursday, the second attack blamed on Basque separatist group ETA in two days.

They are only a part "Police Officers" as you say, because they are an Armed Forces Body and hence soldiers (Ministry of Defense their boss. Ministry of Interior has also some direction upon them - the police part - , but only in peace time).
