Birth of a new bird: The Airbus A380

Hi,

Woooooooooohuuuuuuuuu that's a Big Bird :D

Just recently Airbus has launched what will be the largest airliner ever built. This double-decker aircraft will seat 555 passengers in a typical three-class cabin layout and over 800 in a single class configuration. Scheduled for service in 2006, the A380 will fly over distances of 8,000 miles (14,800 km) and will be powered by four Trent 900 engines from Rolls-Royce or GP7200 engines from The Engine Alliance (General Electric and Pratt & Whitney). Airbus promises a more efficient airplane than its rival, the Boeing 747. Airbus claims the A380 will use 20% less fuel and will fly quieter, cheaper, and be more environmentally friendly than the 747.

AirBus Considers that the Future Belongs to Big Long range Aircraftes ..............on the other hand it's Direct Rival Boeing Seems to think medium size long-range aircraft will be of better interest to the airlines..............lets see who wins the mind games .

I think this jet will sell to the biggest airline companies because those companies want the prestige of fielding the largest airliner ever built.

It looks pretty awesome.....I just wonder how economical and affordable it'll be for most passengers, and if all the amenities it's cut out for will be reserved for only first class passengers.

I just noticed.... it only seats 30 more people than the 747.... will airline companies REALLY dish out that much extra money just to seat 30 more people? But then again I said the top would still buy just as a prestige thing. But that will be poor business for Airbus....

So far it says 150 units have been requested...UPS and Fedex have requested cargo versions. But I too, just realized the increase in capacity is only 30....I would have expected more. Sucks for the airport's that are going to have to reconfigure terminals just to get them in/out

That's on the Luxury editions (three-class), wich features double beds, casino, bars etc..

It's possible to remove that and fit extra seats there instead (single-class), and then it can take around 800-850 passengers.. :)

Its a very large bird... I heard a lot have been sold already, before production started. I wonder what Boeing will pull out of their sleeve...: )

I heard some can seat up to 800 passengers. This project was out quite a while ago and then it was kept under wraps and finally its finished so thats probably why it seems the sketches were only yesterday lol.

watch this, boeing came out with the 7E7 which is a smaller transatlantic plain, but also way more economical. But knowing Boeing they will come out with a triple decker, which will seat at least 1,000 if not more, because look how long it took for somebody else to catch up.

And Airbus is a large company made up of all the former European companies, which joined together so they could compete with the American Airplane Industry.

I don't think they can make anything higher than the double decker or it will be too tall. Its like their going to put a small town into the plane.

Strongbow... from your nickname I would assume your English?

Wales Sir!!! Get it right my good man. I think I am going to be violently ill.

A great Marcherlord such as myself has been insulted.

I would insist on a duel of hand to hand combat but I will let you off this time. :horsie:

My bad. hehe. Didn't know where Strongbow Ale came from but they were sponsors of Leeds United for quite a while so thought I'd shoot off a guess.
Be careful who you challenge to hand to hand. I'm a pro 8)
