LTC Joseph M. Land., Sr., USACC, began his career in uniform when he joined the Naval Sea Cadet Corps at the age of 13 in his hometown of Burbank, Illinois. After four years as a Cadet, having achieved the highest rate available of Cadet Petty Officer First Class, he joined the United States Navy as a Public Affairs Specialist / Journalist.

Upon completion of Basic Journalism School at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana, he was assigned as Ship’s Journalist aboard USS South Carolina (CGN-37). During that tour, he traveled to 28 countries and was the 11th Journalist in the history of the U.S. Navy to earn a warfare designation. He later transferred to Navy Broadcasting Service, Keflavik, Iceland, where he served in the Radio and Television departments. While in Iceland, he was promoted to Petty Officer First Class, five years ahead of his peers. His active duty career was completed while serving as the Operations Officer for Navy Broadcasting Service, Detachment San Diego, where he led a Rapid Deployment Force specializing in command information. Additionally, he was the West Coast Assignment Editor for Navy and Marine Corps News, a weekly television newsmagazine. He was Honorably Discharged in 1990 with ten years of active service.

Concurrent with his active duty career, he also served as a non-paid professional developing and leading Cadet units. As such, he served as Operations, Training, Administrative, Supply and Recruiting/Retention Officer, as well as Executive Officer, in several Cadet units nationwide. In 1985, he assumed command of a Naval Sea Cadet Corps unit in Keflavik, Iceland, making him the youngest Commanding Officer in the history of the Naval Sea Cadet Corps. He later formed and commanded three units in Virginia, California and Florida. Further, he commanded the Training Ship Resilience (YP-660), a wooden training ship formerly used at the U.S. Naval Academy, with an all-Cadet crew.

In July 2000, he was promoted to Commander, U.S. Naval Cadet Corps, and assigned to National Headquarters, American Cadet Alliance, as the Director of Special Projects. As such, he was credited with streamlining acquisition systems, developing strategic marketing and development plans, and nearly tripled the size of our country’s oldest Corps of Cadets. In 2003, he was assigned as the National Chief of Staff, American Cadet Alliance, responsible for the day-to-day operations of the ACA, with Naval Cadets, Marine Cadets and Army Cadets assigned, the billet he currently holds.

In keeping with the direction of the American Cadet Alliance, he transferred from the U.S. Naval Cadet Corps after 30+ years in a Navy uniform to the U.S. Army Cadet Corps on 15 Jul 07, assuming the rank of Lt. Colonel, U.S. Army Cadet Corps.

In his civilian life, Lt. Colonel Land is the President of Liberty Communications, where he provides training and facilitation services to civilian and government clients nationwide. He has facilitated Environmental Remediation Teams involved in the BRAC process throughout the east coast. A primary instructor for Rockhurst University, he has trained over 20,000 professionals nationwide in leadership, communications and business development skills. Most recently, he has been heavily involved with the roll-out of the Department of Defense National Security Personnel System (NSPS), providing a new personnel program for DoD employees, replacing the General Schedule (GS) system. Further, he owns Eagles Landing Retreat, a 9,000 sq. ft. retreat on 50 acres used for corporate and church retreats, hunting excursions and family reunions.

He is eligible to wear the Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist device; ACA Basic Parachutist Badge; ACA SCUBA device; Joint Meritorious Unit Award; Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation: National Defense Service Medal; Navy Enlisted Good Conduct Medal (three awards): Humanitarian Service Medal: Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal: ACA Superior Service Medal, ACA Distinguished Service Medal, ACA Meritorious Service Medal, ACA Commendation Medal, ACA Achievement Medal and several other personal and unit awards.

Lt. Colonel Land has a degree in Sociology and Education from the University of New York. He is married to the former Chiquita Beccue of South Bend, Indiana. The Lands live in Chiefland, Florida where they have one son, Joseph M. Land, Jr., who is an 19-year-old former Cadet Master Chief Petty Officer (Parachutist / Diver) in the American Cadet Alliance and is the General Manager of Eagles Landing Retreat.

I am responsible for the day-to-day management of the ACA, which primarily entails unit operations and growth, supervision of the National HQ staff, and interface with the Department of Defense activities which support us.

Finally, please go to

Go here for a video which describes the ACA's Recruit Training program. Our new recruiting commercial can be found here.

In addition to a high-speed training program, you will find that ACA has some of the most advanced Information Technology resources available in Cadetting, as shown by http://www.cadtrak.acacadets.org/screenshots.html which is a view of our Personnel Management Database program, CADTRAK. CADTRAK serves as a single online conduit for all enrollments, promotions, community service tracking and much more. We also have online resources for the tracking of prospective members, Annual Training processing and other areas of program management at the unit and national levels. As ACA continues to grow, so does our ability to provide time-saving resources to the units in the field.

Welcome to the forums LTC(P) Land. :smil:
That has to be the best (and longest) introduction I've ever seen posted in here!

Hooah! Thanks Top and everyone else...glad to be aboard.

You won't see much of me, as I typically only post in response to specific questions regarding ACA. I also monitor www.CadetStuff.org, www.CadetGouge.com and the Cadetting section of www.Gruntsmilitary.com .

The official bio is certainly long...I'm a former Navy Journalist, so nothing I write is short! I only recommend that you read it if you (a) can't sleep...it's the perfect cure, (b) are my mother, or (c) want to know what the ACA's "Blue to Green" program is all about. (after 32 years in whites I'm now playing with Velcro...uh, er...."hook and loop" or whatever the Army calls it :? ...Top, you may have to guide and retrain me like I'm a 2LT! What part of Florida are you in?)

I've been involved with Cadetting for a long time, and have seen a lot of changes in the military, young people and how we as a nation respond to the concept of service. Despite some occasional challenges, it's still fun and keeps me motivated every day! In fact, I have five different meetings this weekend here in Texas (on the road for my civilian "paying job" as a DoD consultant), all with people who want to become involved in the U.S. Army Cadet Corps. It's great to have a positive impact on so many young people, and I'm humbled that so many exceptional adults will follow my lead.

It's always good to meet others who are passionate about service to our great nation, and especially those who dedicate their time and resources to America's future leaders. If you ever have any questions about our program, do not hesitate to ask myself or LCDR (soon to be MAJ, USACC) Chen. I plan to work him like a red-headed stepchild! :whip: :thumb:

BTW - if nothing else, y'all have the coolest smilies on the 'net!

It's good to be "aboard!"

Respectfully,

Well, I spend most of my time in Orlando although we do own a place in Citrus County as well. Don't worry about getting retrained, I'm sure you'll be up to speed in no time.

Bump; for the record, the good LTCLand was promoted to full Colonel last weekend. Congrats, sir! :salute2:
