Best Political System

I was just wondering the specific nation's political system you think is the best in history.

I don't doubt that your country's current system is the likeliest one to be chosen but please consider all the countries in all of history before responding.

Also, don't just give us a one name answer, let's have a full explination on why to go along with it.

nope!

your 2 parties are very different in many aspects AFAIK

but the way your constitution is defined fascinates me!

I could say French system is good too!

I have been waiting a long time for this question. This is where my conservation side comes to life! Hypothetical I reckon that a enlighted despot is the best. In times of trouble the Romans appointed a dictator, who could take the hardest of decisions with the least of red tape. He would have to account himself to the senate afterwards.

Here is where to utopia comes in. If you could find somebody who doesn't get corrupted by ultimate power and has enough brains to see all sides of things and open to suggestions...... that would have vote. Alas, just like communism; good idea but it doesn't work with ordinary men...:(

this theory failed where I marked as Bold, to prevent people from being corrupt we need to supervise them and once you put supervision in place it is no longer an autocracy or dictatorship

I know that Phoenix, that's way I specifically said that it was utopic to thinik it would work. But just think if you would find such a man. (I always think I might be him, unfortunatly others say different :(

Sigh, this is going to get me in trouble.

If you strip down Fascist germany, no war, no holocaust, no racism, the core system of government and economics were bliss. Uneployment virtually disapeerd in Germany. So id have to say its the most effective political system.

As for the best, its hard to argue against athenian democracy.

you mean a very right wing government based on Socialist values?

God, I'm going to get hanged here.

Reb has a good point.

But I think that there is one government that was better.

The Confederate States of America and the United States of America before Lincoln's War of Northen Aggression.

The US Constitution and State's Right. It's simple enough. People know what they need. A federal government two thousand miles away does not know what they need.

State's rights, State rule. It's that simple. The federal Government is not the one that's in charge. It should be the other.

Winston Churchill said: "Democracy is a very poor form of governemnt, but all of the others are much worse."

So long as there are constitutional restraints on democracy to prevent it's degeneration into mob rule, I'll choose it over any other.

The best form of government is a government where it is not necessary to rule, to make laws, enforce laws or try someone for breaking the law.

Anyone that knows where this place is then let me know.

The last time that there was such a place it was the Garden of Eden and you see what happened when someone ate that stupid apple.

Hahahahaha, I am having a blast reading this. My suggestion is to return to tribalism.
No borders to content about, just certain area's that belong to tis or that tribe. A clan-oldest who calls he wise shots, no UN or Europe to worry about. No unemployment or others to care about. If an other clan bothers you you kill them (who'll know or care) or you'll move an accept your new fate. Obidience to the clan is all important (how fascist), individualism is "not-done" (also very fascist) and no other government or tribe elders telling you what to do!
Where can I sign up, because I'm all for it?

Well, I know I've been putting in the good word for Sparta lately in the Anciet History Threads, so why not here.

Now this is just their system of Government, not social structure or Education system.

Sparta had three levels of Government. The Two Kings, The Gerousia, and the Apella. The Two Kings, acoording to myth, were direct desendants of Herakles. At times of War, One king would lead the forces, while one remained at home to attentend to Admistrational Duties.

The Gerousia roughly translates to "The Council of Elders". 30 members, including the Kings, of Sparta's most most senior and respected citizens. Had to be over 60 y/o, were elected by the Apella, and were elected for life.

The Apella, was bascially the Parliment. The Gerousia and the Ephors sat over their meetings. It was open to all Homois (Full Male Spartan Citizen's)
They were told what issues they were to discuss, and voted yes or no to the ideas the Gerousia had already discussed and concluded. However their decisions could be overridden by the Ephors.

Now the Ephors, though not a level of Government, was the most powerful position in Sparta. There wer 5 of them, elected for one year, by the Apella, for each of the five Provinces of Sparta. Each candidate was nominated by the Gerousia. They Made sure the Kings did not step out of their consituional boundaries, and had the power to arrest anyone, including the Kings, Without charge. However, the Kings could Dimsmiss an Ephor if they abused their powers.
The Ephors presided over the Gerousia and the Apella, called all meetings of government, and between the five of them, took over all the Kings Powers. The Kings became "Hereditary Generals", limited to commanding the Army at War, Appointing Magistrates, and Handling Marriges and Adpotion cases.
An Ephor could only serve for one year, and could not be re-elected.

I think the best Government system comes from Singapore. In my country there are no riots! Cause no one dares to riot! The last riot I think was about 30 yeasrs ago! haa! And I tell you, everyone in my country fear the Police. But Overall, my country is runned quite good!

Yeah, I'm kinda' with 5.56 on this one. Striking a ballance between Federal Rule and State's Rights with numerous checks and ballances in both systems is the best option I think.

I believe that America's biggest problem is that now-a-days it's a federal republic lead out of the north with a side dish of democracy mostly just to keep the proliteriat in check.

The government should be in constant fear of the people... not the other way around.
