The Alamo is considered by many as a American fought battle but it wasn't in fact many of the Defenders felt the were good Mexican citizens they were unhappy with the Mexican Government change from the constitution of 1824 , Santa Anna's policy of no prisoners came back to haunt him big time at San Jacinto , the battle won Texas their independence , the battle lasted just 18 minutes with 748 Mexicans killed mostly by knife and bayonet as opposed to 10 Americans killed .:hide:

As I said it was not an American fought battle , many nationalities participated they had all come to Texas to start anew and get a piece of the land that the Mexicans were handing out .

This conforms to what I've read. Originally they considered themselves Loyal to, and defending, the 1824 Constitution against the Dictator Gen. Santa Anna. That's why they show in the movie a Mexican flag with 1824 on it flying over The Alamo. It wasn't until later that they fought for independence as Texans. It's an American victory only through default, the annexation of the Republic of Texas.

Yeah it was 10 years before Texas became a state at the end of the Mexican War , but I can't help but think of how bloody the battle San Jacinto was 740 Mexicans killed mostly by knife and bayonet those Texans played hard ball , Sam Houston tried to put a stop to it to no avail .
