Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Bangladesh the land of 12 rivers and basically poor? How do they pay for all this hardware do they have oil or gas?

DHAKA, Bangladesh - Bangladesh, with the help of China, test-launched its first C-802A anti-ship missile from a frigate in the Bay of Bengal on May 12. Commissioned in 1989, the 1,500-ton F-18 Osman is a Chinese-built Jianghu-class frigate. This is Dhaka's first C-802 missile test launch.
The navy acquired the improved C-802A variant and FM-90N SAM and the air force procured Chinese PL- air-to-air missiles in 2006. The number of units is unknown.

China has an intimate relationship with Bangladesh's military. Much of its army, navy and air force consists of Chinese hardware. In August 2007, Chinese Gen. Chen Bingde visited Bangladesh to discuss military sales and cooperation. Chen, a member of China's Central Military Commission, was also chief of the General Armament Department of the People's Liberation Army.
Bangladesh's navy inventory includes the Jianghu-class 1,500-ton F-18 Osman frigate, four 175-ton Huangfeng-class guided-missile patrol boats (PTG), five 68-ton Houku-class PTGs and other Chinese vessels, including a torpedo boat, patrol boat, submarine hunter, minesweeper, landing craft, tugs and survey craft.
The air force is equipped with two squadrons of Chengdu F-7Ms and Guizhou FT-7s, one squadron of Nanchang A-5Cs and Shenyang FT-6s, and one trainer squadron of Nanchang PT-6s.
Army equipment includes Chinese W-531 Type 85 armored personnel carriers, T-62 light tanks and T-59 main battle tanks. According to its declaration to the United Nations in 2007, covering 2006, China has sold 65 large-caliber artillery systems, including 18 122mm howitzers and 16 rocket launchers.

1. Bangladesh is a land of multitude if rivers. It is located in the delta formed by two of the mightiest rivers of the world - the Ganges and the Brahmaputra. Bangladesh is highly overpopulated, and is visited by natural calamities like cyclones and floods. However, the people are resilient and internally strong. Few decades earlier a cyclone meant several thousand or even hundreds of thousand dead. No more now because of a highly effective management regime. (to give you an idea, the recent US tornado had reached speeds of upto 90 mph. In the cyclone in 1991 in the south-east coast of Bangladesh this speed at 220 mph at the highest. People exposed in the open had their sins burnt.)

2. Bangladeshis do not consider themselves poor. Living in a region beset with poverty, the people of Bangladesh (160 mlln) get free education and health-care. As an incentive for female education, girls going to school receive cash incentive. Bangladesh is among the highest exporters of ready-made garments to USA. More than 15 mlln Bangladeshis are working abroad sending forex earning. For the last two decades Bangladesh has been the highest or second highest contributor of peace-keepers under UN. No we are not poor.

3. Historically Bangladesh has been invaded always from the west, ie, the present state of India. This invasion has not been military only, but economic and cultural. Therefore, from Day 1, Bangladesh has watched India's movements carefully. That has also caused Bangladesh to seek friendship of China. Yes, China sells us equipment at friendship price.

4. In recent times, Burma, our eastern neighbor, has been disputing our maritime boundary. This as sequel to gas discovery in that zone. We must,therefore, strengthen our Navy. Even USA has sold us four craft that we have converted to frigates.

5. The important issue here is national sovereignty. Whether a nation is affluent or otherwise, whether it has oil or gas, sovereignty must be defended at all cost.
 
Oil wars... which is used in internal combustion engines... which contribute to global warming... which in turn causes the ice caps to melt and seas to rise... which leads to those deltas becoming uninhabitable and Bangladesh becomes an archipelago.

Sometimes I wonder if our species deserves to live, we're the only animal that seems to consistently defecate where we eat.
 
lol im mexican and we got oil too , that sucks , we get free education and health care too , that rocks lol
