BAGHDAD, Sept 9, 2006 (AFP) - Three US soldiers were wounded early Saturday
in a makeshift bomb attack in Baghdad's eastern Jadida neighbourhood, the
military said.

"Three soldiers were wounded ... when their humvee was hit by an improvised
explosive device," US military spokesman Major William Willhoite told AFP.

An AFP photographer at the site said a US humvee was completely destroyed by
the blast.

The US military delays the announcement of fatalities until victims'
families have been notified.

Since Sunday, 17 US servicemen have been killed across Iraq.

The total number of US service personnel killed since the March 2003
invasion of Iraq has reached 2,663, according to an AFP count based on
Pentagon figures.
