Iran’s parliamentary speaker Gholam Ali Haddad-Adel has said at a meeting with the chairman of the Belarusian National Assembly’s Chamber of Representatives, Vladimir Konoplyov, that the two countries need to step up their cooperation in withstanding outside pressure, Interfax reported.

“There are various groundless complaints against your country, and we are subject to pressure as well. I believe that independent countries like Belarus and Iran can counter intrigues against them more effectively through joint efforts,” the Iranian deputy said.

Iran wants “Belarus to be a powerful state and will never put up with attempts by international organizations to put pressure on your state. Rather, we will help counter such attempts,” he said.

“Belarus is a genuinely independent country, and all decisions taken by your nation do not depend on other countries’ views,” he said, applauding political relations between Belarus and Iran.

Iran is believed to be developing nuclear weapons which has resulted in significant pressure from the West. Belarus is criticized over its human rights record and the activities of its president Alexander Lukahsenko, considered to be a Soviet-style dictator.

I mentioned elsewhere on another thread that the rhetoric of the Iranian leaders regarding the holocaust being a myth, calls for the destruction of Israel, various other anti-anything western... would be making for some strange bedfellows. As much as we wish our enemies to be idiots they are not. They are in fact shrewd politicians who do and say things for a calculated reason and it is working. Now we have Belarus in bed with Iran and Russia arming them and its still early folks.
