Australia ends Iraq combat operations (AP)

AP - Australia, a staunch U.S. ally and one of the first countries to commit troops to the Iraq war five years ago, ended combat operations there Sunday, a Defense Department official said.

Possibly the most stupid thing the Rudd government has done so far. Also it's just a stunt. To withdraw a battlegroup from Southern Iraq only and claim "the troops are coming home", "end of combat operations" etc is false. Bearing in mind there are still Australian forces in Iraq: SECDET (A combat group) in Baghdad, the logistics task groups, HQ groups, RAAF and RAN are still in Iraq.
