I don't know a lot of Aussie Quotes or Quotes accredited by Australian's off the top of my head, but I do know these one's, feel free to add in more of you know any

Totally off the subject, but Padre, where did you get the lion from? It looks a lot like the lion of my province "South-Holland". When we ruled the seas in our Golden Age our red Lion in yellow banner was well know. Then again that was over 500 years ago......

Ted, this is the Royal Scottish version of a "Rampant Lion" found on the Scottish Royal flag and arms (as well as the current British Royal arms in one of its corners). This particular image I got from Google images under rampant lion from some Scottish web-site. You're right about the similarities between this lion and the South Holland's lion - although if you don't mind me saying the Scottish lion has nicer legs.

You're right Padre that "your Lion" looks smarter. I've tried to find a better picture of an older shield. This is what I came up with, it's the best I could do from where I sit at this moment.

But I understand the similarities. If I'm not mistaken it was William III who migrated to the English Crown and became king of England, Ireland and Scotland on the 21th of April 1689. He took the "Dutch Lion" with him and it is still incorporated in the Royal Weapon of England.
It were probably the Jacobites' Irish friends that took this lion with them when they helped them in Scotland. The Lion first moved to Ireland and got a prominent place after the battle of the Boyne.
 
I think the Scots had the lion thing going in the 1200's if not earlier - definately had it during Mary Queen of Scots in 1500's - so it preceeds William of Orange
