ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Feb.10 — An explosion in the parking compound of the International Committee of the Red Cross headquarters in Peshawar, a northwestern city, damaged four vehicles but hurt no one early Saturday, officials said.
A spokeswoman for the Red Cross, Layla Berlemont, confirmed the attack and lack of casualties in a telephone interview. She said the office had not received any threats before the attack and would continue its activities in the North-Western Frontier Province, where Peshawar is.
Some news reports said that a gas cylinder had been thrown over the wall of the complex, but the police could not confirm that and were still investigating, said Iftikhar Khan, of the Peshawar police force.
Foreign aid agencies in the province have been attacked or threatened by Islamic militants at times. On Monday, a grenade was lobbed at a compound of the American aid group Save the Children in Battagram, wounding two Pakistani employees.
