Ok, so I'm joining the Marine Corps to be an Intelligence Specialist and my friend is joining the Army for something....I can't remember right now...he decided to call me a pussy Marine because I was doing a non-combat job....I really had no great replies since I will most likely never see an enemy face-to-face....anyone got anything for me to retort with? So far I've just made fun of the fact that he's Army National Guard (Army= Ain't really Marines yet) but I really need something good

Well since you aren't a Marine yet and he isn't a Soldier yet I'd say it's just a wanna be purse fight,

Why am I a wanna be? The only reason I'm not enlisted yet is because I tore my ACL and had to get it replaced. The USMC requires I wait 8 months. At which point I will be enlisting ASAP. I respect both the army and marines but I also don't like not having a comeback and I figured current troops or vets would have the best comebacks.

I wasn't allowed to call myself a human being let alone a Soldier until I had my cross rifles pinned on me which was around 12 or so weeks into Infantry school. The last thing you should be worrying about is rebukes.

I never said I was a Marine, nor would I ever call myself one before I have put in the blood and sweat to earn that title but I don't think I should have to be in the Corps to joke around with a friend. I meant no disrespect with my comments and I hope it didn't come off that way.

When you finally get in, something you will learn is that no service is "pussy". You're all on the same team, with different jobs. You really think you'll be a Marine, and in a non-combat role? ROFL! Gawd that's funny! Nearly peed my pants 'cause it's so funny!

Kid, trust me- Marines love a good fight. Count on a good chance of seeing combat. IMO.

Intel? lol

Don't matter if you are a marine or a soldier. You still want to be a POG. Means personnell other than grunt. If you aren't infantry, you are a POG. Sorry man, you chose the job.

I find it astonishing how uneducated our kids are when they graduate from high school. They want these really important roles! They wanna "fight"! They have this idea that the only important people are those pulling the trigger.
In the military EVERYONE is important.
Cooks, plumbers, carpenters, dentists, pediatrists, everyone. No one has any right saying, or as in this case implying, any different.

Maybe they feel better when they say that, but it sure makes them look like idiots.
And last I knew you have to be prior service to be in intel.

I tried telling him that the infantry would have a tough time doing their job without Intel guys to back them up and you don't need prior service...you go in as an Intel Specialist but have to wait til your a Sgt. to lat move to any other job in Intelligence.

If you are truly going to be in the Marines and in Intel you are going to learn your job in an Army School. So if the Army is to teach you why not go to the source?

LOL don't flatter yourself "INTEL". first of all, military intelligence is an oxy-moron. I never used anything intel has given us nor has it ever been accurate. maybe i always had the bad luck of being with a unit with a horrible S-2. However, I also been to 3 duty stations so that tells you something.

go infantry man. I learned the best intel you can get is from other line guys whom sector you are about to take over or the stuff you find yourself. intel is straight up desk job not very james bond like.

Well actually now I'm switching over and I'm going to do Ground Ordnance for the Marines. Then when I get out I'm going to be a gunsmith.

Yeah if he was going to be an 0231 he'd be going to NA Dam Neck Va MCAD Co.

That's an Army Unit right?

Your had/have 3 duty stations, wow! I had at least 14. These included Viet Nam, multiple tours with Spec. Ops., multiple tours in Korea and Germany, Japan, and a couple of deployments I can‘t list.

You believe Military Intel is an “oxy moron”, where have I heard that before. Oh, year, from guys like George Washington “The necessity of procuring good intelligence is apparent and need not be further urged“. I would think he had some insight. Every SF Team, SEAL Team, Ranger Unit, Airborne unit, in fact most all units have intelligence specialist with them, why would all services have them if they were an "oxy-moron"?

And as to POG’s - the next time you get shot (provided you really are a “grunt”) don’t scream for a medic; when you get hungry or need ammo, or como, or air or artillery support, or need to get somewhere you can’t walk - don’t bother to call a POG.

Hey Intel: Where do you think Pvt and Pfc intel specialists go when they finish training. They go to rifle companies to provide intel to company commanders and battalion staff. In order to get this intel guess what you do? You saddle up, grab your gear and go on patrol with rifle squads. In the bush you will be indistinguishable from an 0311 at ten feet. In a firefight you will be right there with the grunts slinging lead at the bad guys and trying not to get your butt handed to you. If your recruiter told you you wouldn't see combat as an intel specialist, well...LOL. And one more thing son, you ain't a Marine until the Corps tells you! Hit us back after boot camp graduation.

Sorry fellas, just thought I'd clear my throat. :p

I read that intelligence specialist just sit in windowless rooms on computers taking the intel that others have gotten and sent in and interpreting it and getting it ready for the brief they give to the higher-ups...besides I'm not doing Intel anymore...I wanna fix small arms as Ground Ordnance and then become a gunsmith when I get out

Mostly the guys doing the gathering are 0211 which is a Lateral Move MOS and has different requirements to include being a Cpl.Since they Lat-Move in from different MOS's they bring more to the table than a Pvt or PFC 0231
