Army Officer Doesn't Deploy With Unit

In my opinion, while he's certainly free to state his beliefs and act upon them, he's just coming off as a spoiled brat to me. I mean, what did he expect when he joined, that he would fight only the wars that he felt like?

When you join the Forces are take an oath to obey orders, and not just the ones that you agree with. I have no time for people that refuse to fight for their country, and even less for officers that refuse to lead their men. Is it that he disagrees with the war or is it that he does not want to put him self in harms way, but what ever it is I hope they throw the book at him. We had an a RAF officer in Britain refuse to go to Iraq and h is now serving time in prison.

This is why I can't join the Army. I might one day get an order to fight a war that makes no sense.

I read somewhere about a group of US soldiers who have fled to Canada, and have set up some support network, to bring more of their coward mates across with them.

I say, send them back to the US, and make stand trail for desertion.
They are in the Army, not the bloody Scouts, you don't ge to choose where you serve, you swore an oath to serve your nation, you were told at recruitment you could serve in a war zone, and they do a runner when they are told to go.

It is pure cowardice, no other word can describe it, cowardice.
