If you amend the above statement to say "except the UK" I will agree with you. That certain nation I refer to tends to throw in the whole " During your revolution." arguement every time that is brought up.That debt was paid twice. The UK on the other hand has never forgotten we were and are allies in a common cause.

I have friends and family in Europe so I'm there quite often.
My reflection on Europe (with the exception of the UK and perhaps to a limited degree Germany) is that they are pleasant people but are very incapable. No one falls under this category better than Belgium. Very nice, but very incapable. All that education and they still can't do anything. France... arrogant and nothing to back it up. My least favorite European. You can find some nice people there still. The English tend to be a good mix of being alright to be around and still being capable. I said "nice, but incapable." |

The French are strong on paper but really... if you take a look, their useful people are foreign.
They ought to pass a law that says Presidents of France from now on may only be naturalized, foreign born citizens. Reflects their useful population more fairly that way. Quote:

Thanks for keep voting and expressing your views. There was of course a high degree of generalization in my question, and it could have hardly been different.
UK is clearly 'something' different than Americans' usual idea of a 'European country', and the Russia issue is important. Whether it is part of Europe or not, it wasn't meant as a European country in the poll question. France, Germany, Spain, UK, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Austria, Poland, Denmark and all the other continental countries were included. Some of you pointed out that it was clear to you guys in your schoolyears how much stronger UK and Germany have been than any other countries in Europe. Right. Size doesnt mean everything though. China could easily annihilate UK, that doesnt mean China is more appreciable than UK is, at the eyes of the Americans. What is greater than Italy sticking with the US and UK in such a heavy war, because we believe we are truly brother nations and our interests are intertwined? Whats better than Poland understanding that US have played a major role in the world's spread of democracy, so sends its boys to the front side by side with US soldiers? And, for big and tough they may have been in the past, or predominant in power, whats more shameful than two big countries whose liberation took away hundreds of thousands of American young men, now cowardly staying at home? If I were American, I would vote for the basically ungrateful option, or for the some ok some no good one. |
