I have a deep mutual respect toward Europe yet I do sometimes feel as though they're very Ungrateful, we absolutely assured their victory in WWI, saved their ass (Allies) in WWII, provided lend-lease (post WWII/to allies and reconstruction).
I think the world has a lot to be grateful to America for. It is a great country. The last time I visited, I found the inhabitants to be most charming and accommodating. Despite the following I am very pro-American, but they do have a strange colorized view of the world around them.

As per, the above quote, it is true that the presence of American troops was decisive, but lets not forget that although they declared war in 1917, not one American soldier took part until May 1918 so not massive American involvement there. As for winning WWII, a lot of resources were sent to Britain, true, but it did stand, alone for 18 months and the end result was that it was bankrupt while America got very rich. Of course now in Iraq, who's companies have got the reconstruction contracts? One guess! It could be argued that the majority of troops there are American so that's OK, but this war is one America sought and one which Britain is involved with only to try and legitimise the conflict to the rest of the world.

That said, I am pleased that Britain did take part in the conflict. Despots like Saddam, should not be in charge of countries.

First off I wanna know this, what is this second path? Through a nine mile wide stretch of land into Afganhistan, onto Iran, then Iraq, Saudi Arabia, over to Egypt, on through Algeria, take Morocco, then up through Spain, France and finally across the channel into the United Kingdom? Or perhaps they are going to somehow conquer Russia, cross the Bering Straight, sweep across Canada, invade Greenland and then what? Hijack a bunce of fishing boats and cross into the UK from there? China has, or shouldn't have, any hopes of dominating anyone in the near future that outside of the reach of their foot soldiers, which means that Vietnam, Korea, India (maybe, not likely, but maybe), Pakistan, and Kazakhstan have reason to be worried, oh let us not forget Laos, Cambodia, and Burma. Right now only one country needs to worry about being dominated by China in the near future, South Korea, but with the US on their side they should be pretty safe. (Remember, we have enough nukes to launch a massive, large scale nuclear assault on China, what do they have? 20? maybe 40 capable of reaching the US mainland?)

Furthermore, Lend Lease was what won World War II, regardless of what anyone says it is true, we gave the UK their supplies, we gave the Russians the oil and steel to make their massive tank forces and to keep them moving, and we supplied all the food that Britain needed, with out Lend Lease Britain and the Soviet Union would have been defeated, well, maybe not the Soviets, but UK most definately.

rOK, pretty much, see Europe had/has so many ethnic groups that absolutely despise each other that those countries are unlikely to unite for the common defense, rather they would be conquered one by one and any resistance would meet a swift end, just like in Belgium when they were invaded by Germany in WWI. And I am willing to bet that is the majority opinion, after all, when most Americans hear Europe we think of France, Germany, the UK, and Russia, some will think of Italy too (like myself) but for the most part our first thoughts are of those above mentioned nations, look at Kosovo for instance, Europe came to the US asking for help, we tryed to so no, it is your problem, you are more than capable of taking care of it, you do it, in the end we still had the intervene becase the EU did nothing, we ended up using NATO to try and settle things down.

We cannot use even 20 nukes, that would be the end of life for all humans and animals alike

I just registered for this thread, cause im realy interested in how amicans see europe and especially germany, becaus im german.
First i didnt know why but then the time gave me some reasons for what i not like americans. Most important is for me that bush is elected again. who else the other one was too clever (its quote that was said on tv).

A few of you think we should learn something from americans. no i dont think so. the american "culture"(which isnt even older then a few over 200 years) have lets say "polluted" no better "conterminated" or cultur (there are many and a few of them are much older than 2000 years) too much.
My opinion is a bit drastic, but what ive read here (ive not read all yet) is wrong for a part. i can tell about my friends and family. they all think about americans like me and i cant imagen that it is different anywhere else in europe or at least in eastern germany. I just shake my head when i hear that americans say that they think germans like the usa. that is wrong

for short: For me it would better the usa would lie on the moon, where they are on their own or something like that
