American society

I am fed up with US society! I have never experienced police brutality but I think police brutality is barbaric! Why do Americans approve of this barbarism? I wish all American police would be disarmed. The police force is not brutal in Canada and Western Europe. Why can't the American police force be like the Canadians and Western Europeans? I want to live in a peaceful ethical society! I want all Americans to be peaceful and educated! I want to move to Canada or Western Europe. I have had it with America! The American conservatives are one of the most ignorant and uneducated people on the planet. They are comparable to the Saudi Arabians and Taliban. They need to be educated! I suspect the majority of the police who commit brutal acts share this political ideology.

I have never even come close to understanding many things about American Society.

Before we even get started on Police brutality, I can't understand how you have a State Police Force and what I seem to understand as a

Local Police Force where the Sheriff is elected or chosen by such people as the local Mayor. To me this is an open invitation to graft and corruption.

Of late there is a big "stinko" going on about your Law enforcement people willingly and knowingly flouting parts of your Constitution refusing people their Rights, with such things as suspicionless searches, harassment of those licenced to open carry etc., to the point where several have lied to and then assaulted citizens to a point where they have had to be admitted to hospital. The subsequent court cases rule against them but it seems to have no effect and the behaviour just goes on.

What is with this wave of people joining just to diss the military or LEOs? Trolls need to get a hobby and find some place else to play. Idjits. -SMH-

Most of the police officers assigned to my high school are arrogant bastards who think they can get away with anything! They think the rules don't apply to them and they think they are untouchable. We are becoming a police state! I hope the good Americans rise up! Most of my fellow U.S. Naval Sea cadets think the same! Down with the police state! Down with the NSA! We need to end law enforcement oppression!

Give me liberty or give me death!

I really don't know what your expectations are of your LEOs in the US, but just judging from the miniscule amount of stuff on sites like YouTube, I'd be as worried as hell, both at the radicalism of many of the taxpayers and the violence and willingness of the LEOs to willingly and knowingly transgress your own Constitution. Macing, beating and tasing people who are merely exercising their Rights as defined within your own Constitution. Altogether it seems a screwy system with everyone moving further to the Left or Right and no effective "Middle Ground"

I fully appreciate that not all LEOs are this way, but it would seem to me that there are far too many,.... and many citizens seem to be just as bad.

I won't even start on such stupidity as things like, why citizens should feel the need to "open carry" just because their Constitution says they can.

Umm well I have tried to avoid the thread on the grounds that it was one that was never going to go well right from the start but if I had to make a comment it would be that I think there is a growing consensus worldwide that politics and justice is now about maintenance of the status-quo rather than equality before the law.

I would consider that the worrying trend is companies that are breaking the law and making billions of dollars simply pay a fraction of their gains as fines and carry on.

As for LEO's transgressing the law well I am not sure that is a new phenomenon, the new aspect is the number that are finding themselves on video doing it. Once again I suspect it is the rapid expansion of digital media that is making these occurrences seem like a growing issue.

I was reading this earlier and it seems applicable.
Nasa Study: 'Collapse of Modern Civilisation is Near'

Modern civilisation may collapse soon if economic inequality and over consumption of resources are not addressed to, a new study reveals.NASA

The modern civilisation driven by industrialisation could collapse in just a few decades, a new study funded by Nasa's Goddard Space Flight Center says.
The study, to be published in the journal Elsevier, compares historical data from the collapse of several progressive and prosperous civilisations since ancient times - and found that even the most advanced societies are vulnerable to collapse.
"The fall of the Roman Empire, and the equally [if not more] advanced Han, Mauryan, and Gupta Empires, as well as so many advanced Mesopotamian Empires, are all testimony to the fact that advanced, sophisticated, complex, and creative civilizations can be both fragile and impermanent," study leader Safa Motesharri said, according to the Guardian.
The researchers say the collapse of modern civilisation will happen due to unsustainable resource exploitation and increasingly unequal wealth distribution.
These phenomena, he says, have led to the collapse of many complex civilisations over the last 5,000 years.
Regarding modern society, the study suggested that our civilisation could be imperilled by problems relating to population, climate, water, agriculture and energy.
The study further stresses the wide rich-poor divide leading to overconsumption of resources, largely by industrialised nations, would also be highly responsible.
"Accumulated surplus is not evenly distributed throughout society, but rather has been controlled by an elite," the researchers said.
"The mass of the population, while producing the wealth, is only allocated a small portion of it by elites, usually at or just above subsistence levels."
"Even using an optimal depletion rate and starting with a very small number of Elites, the Elites eventually consume too much, resulting in a famine among Commoners that eventually causes the collapse of society."
According to the study, while a collapse seems difficult to avoid, control over population growth, less dependence on non-renewable resources and equal distribution of the resources could avert any disaster.
"Collapse can be avoided and population can reach equilibrium if the per capita rate of depletion of nature is reduced to a sustainable level, and if resources are distributed in a reasonably equitable fashion," the researchers concluded.

Wow. Someone recently get picked up by the peelers did they?
If we were to take this seriously there is a hell of a lot of factors involved here and the USA being a rather violent society may be one of the factors in making coppers quite brutal....? Would I be right in thinking that a lot of US coppers get injured or killed in the line of duty??

I really think American society is too violent. I think an international intervention might be necessary.

I don't agree, I lived there for 7 years and have probably spent another 10 years there in 3 month blocks and at no stage did I ever feel threatened or in danger.

There is violence everywhere and the USA is no different in that respect to any other nation on earth I would suggest the only difference is how quickly Americans resort to lethal methods by comparison to most developed parts of the world.

I think one of the biggest problems is those who have jobs and a roof over their heads refuse to look at the truth of the matter. Yes,... it's embarrassing, but refusing to acknowledge it is only making it worse.

Why is it that in the allegedly "Richest Country on earth" the fastest rising demographic among the poor is a relatively new group, "the long term working homeless", many of whom have full time jobs but have to live in cars and vans merely to have enough left of their wages to be able to afford to eat. This problem is so bad that I believe Walmart have approved the use of their car parking areas after business hours for use by these groups to afford them some small degree of security and the chance to socialise and network their ideas.

There are also an admitted 16,000,000 children officially recognised as living in poverty.

In the face of which no one can tell me that this is a truly functional or caring society.
