Sweet looking ship... and a very capable one too.

She comes fully loaded with a 5-inch automatic Mk45 mod2 gun, a CIWS, one 48 cell Mk 41 VLS, 32 SM-MR BlkIII missiles, 64 ESSM, eight harpoon launchers and four 324 mm Mk32 triple torpedo launchers with Honeywell Mk46 mod 5 torpedos, as well as a kick as AsuW oriented Seahawk! :santam16:


And the best part: The price tag on this shining example of a true multi-purpose frigate is only a little over $800 million. Wooooot!

... and don´t forget the AEGIS, fairly new generation!

Why would it even matter where you put the radar on the ship so long as it does what it's designed to do? Perhaps space was an issue, and in fact it usually is with any kind of engineering.
 
Just saying it's interesting because most others have put a bridge above the radar. Just wondering if there might be some kind of advantage, or if they wanted to add the system to an existing ship design without making too many modifications to it (which would make it expensive)
 
The Alvaro da Bazan class is a little different than the Burke. It is not as 'beamie' as the Burke class. The Alvaro da Bazan Class has a more normal length to beam of 8.4:1 as opposed to the Burke Class having a L:W of 7.65:1. This reduction in the over all size means less room in hull of the ship but, re-arranging the new aegis system by placing all four antennas near each other simplifies the above deck structure. SPY-1D Aegis system, as modern as it gets.
I am quite sure the main-frame computers that run the aegis "1D" takes us far less room than earlier generations of aegis!

The USS Spruance Class destroyers were faster than the USS Burke Class in calm seas BUT, having a greater length to beam ratio allows the Burkes to travel at a higher speeds in heavy seas with greater comfort to the crew than than the traditional destroyer hull forms. This keeps the destroyers from slowing down the carriers in heavy seas. (Something usually not mentioned when discussing the speed of a carrier. What good is it in heavy weather if a carrier has to travel slow because its escorts can not travel as fast as the carrier?
Different sources claim different speeds for these two destroyers. Although it really doesn't matter as long as it is able to operate effectively within what the needs of the battle group.
