Because all of your money goes to exactly that.
To be frank, you have no idea what YOUR money goes to. You know that the government does ATTEMPT to take care of people like that, even though they may not need it or have any motivation to better their situation, but can you tell me exactly how much of your money specifically goes to those people.
THAT IS THE POINT ROB. The way our government spends money to too convoluted to answer that question accurately. But I will try.
Rob, Here is where the money comes from
The top 1 percent: Americans who earned an adjusted gross income of $410,096 or more accounted for 22.8 percent of all wages. But they paid 40.4 percent of total reported income taxes, an increase from 39.9 percent in 2006, according to the IRS.
The top 5 percent: Americans who earned $160,041 or more accounted for 37.4 percent of all wages in 2007. But they paid 60.6 percent of the country's total reported income taxes, up from 60.1 percent a year earlier.
The top 10 percent: Americans who earned at least $113,018 paid 71.2 percent of the nation's income taxes, up from 70.8 percent a year earlier.
The top 25 percent: Americans who earned at least $66,532 paid 86.6 percent of the nation's income taxes, up from 86.3 percent a year earlier.
The top 50 percent: Americans who earned at least $32,879 paid 97.1 percent of the nation's income taxes, up from 97 percent a year earlier.
The bottom 50 percent: Americans who earned less than $32,879 paid 2.9 percent of the nation's income taxes, down from 3 percent a year earlier.
Appears that the top 50% are expected to pay more every year and the bottom 50% are expected to pay less every year.
Here is where it goes:
Defense 19.85% (2010)
Healthcare 10.83% (2010)
Income Security 15.25% (2010)
Medicare 12.75% (2010)
Social Security 19.56% (2010)
By 2014:
Defense 90.45% of 2010 spending
Healthcare 109.73% of 2010 spending
Medicare 138.91% of 2010 spending
Income Security 94.37% of 2010 spending
Social Security 120.40% of 2010 spending

The figures above are the estimated figures from the government.
Funny how even though half the population apparently doesn't pay taxes, yet the United States still exists... ???
Cops and firefighters DESERVE those retirement packages. At least I think they do. They put their lives on the line for a good portion of their lives... The absolute least I feel I can do is pay for them to live with some measure of comfort after they hang up their uniform... If I have to pay a little more taxes for them to do so, then I'm all for it.
How about veterans Rob. Don't you think THEY deserve more than 50% income after 20 years of service?
It's just like that 9/11 health care bill that *just* passed... Those first responders are the MOST deserving people of free health care for the rest of their lives... It BLEW ME AWAY that ANYONE could vote AGAINST them having it. I don't care HOW big the tax hike is, those people should never have to pay a DIME to a health insurance company or a doctor again.
Anarchy. I guarantee it. A Libertarian's ideal government (as little as possible) would conclude in anarchy. Maybe a Libertarian system would work in New Zealand, but not in a country as big as the United States. It NEEDS standards. It NEEDS to be all on the same level on a variety of issues, not just on those basic things.
If any country in the modern world could figure out how to make a hybrid government, it would be the United States. By the way, when I was in Italy about 3 months ago, the people were not living in squalor. I saw 1 homeless woman the entire time. That's walking around Rome, Milan, Venice, etc. One. That's it. They are not suffering in Italy. Now, it's been 2 years since I've been to France, but the conditions there weren't bad either. The standard of living was outrageous, but that's to be expected when the Euro was worth about 1.5 times more than the dollar. (But Europe is broke. LOLOL)
Are you referring to Obama being elected President or the Democrat controlled House AND Senate? LOL
I'd like to see a source for his statements other than townhall.com (which is selling a book called "The Roots of Obama's Rage"?????).
Rob, Did you even read the article? It refers to a study done by Syracuse professor Arthur C. Brooks, titled "Who Really Cares: The Surprising Truth About Compassionate Conservatism."
Information:
Who Really Cares: The Surprising Truth About Compassionate
Conservatism—America’s Charity Divide, Who Gives, Who
Doesn’t, and Why It Matters
Arthur C. Brooks. 2006. New York: Basic Books. ISBN: 13–978–0–465–

I have posted articles proving by DNA (that didn't come from townhall.com) that liberals ARE SCIENTIFICALLY more compassionate than conservatives.
Not in this thread you didn't
I'm curious to see how you're going to attempt to fight scientific fact. Unless of course you "just don't believe it" because it doesn't fit in your neat little bubble of ideology.
