AK: regular magazine vs. drum

From personel experience I can honestly say - they DO NOT work ! 2 bursts and you've got a misfeed, magazine off, clear the weapon, reload. 2 bursts new misfeed, magazine off, clear, reload. This is the kind of aggravation I for one DO NOT need when employing a light support weapon.

KV.

When I was training on the BREN Gun there was a similar problem. The magazine will hold 30 rounds, will fire one or two rounds then jam, if filled with 28 rounds the gun was reliable.

BRENS were issued to reserve units as far as I know into the middle 1980's, but chambered for 7.62 NATO. The last one I used was marked Mk3 1944, then re-stamped 7.62. By this time the sears were starting to wear badly.

To answer drum mag or standard type magazine. That depends on the situation. Running around I'd opt for the standard magazine, in a static defensive position I'd take the drum, but I'd prefer belt fed GPMG if I were static.

true, not as sexy looking as a drum, but who could argue with 60 and 100 rounds in a lightwieght package

Oh... we have sarcasm, whistles, and truncheons. We also have donuts, Whoppers, and Big Macs. If you seen some pics of me you'll find out that I've gained some weight over the years.

I think, for me (just a plain ordinary citizen) I’m far more likely to respect your sarcasm and truncheon. despite the effect of the donuts, whoppers, and big macs. when there is a Glock holstered at your side.

jus sayin :rambo:

ps, in california i have noticed that the humble donut shop is not where you find a cop when you need one any longer, (the end of an era so to speak), you have to go to a starbucks or peets coffey now. :coffee:

A TV show here shows the goings on at Heathrow Airport Not so long ago, an American chap was en-route to Chicago. Among his luggage was a violin case, when someone asked what was in the violin case, joking he said, "I'm from Chicago, its a machine gun." Before he could open the violin case he was on his stomach, in hand cuffs being dragged off to the local cop shop. He told plod that he was only kidding, to which one cop him he had committed a serious offence and could face not only a fine but a custodial sentence. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. The chap was given a extremely stern warning and released. Even in this day and age with the threat of International terrorism this is going overboard.

In parting the American chap said on camera, "Don't even joke at Heathrow airport. But at least I've got a story to tell back home."

But this is getting off topic

Have you seen the news about the riots in the UK? Those events are not rare in the USA. Miami, FL had theirs back in the 1980s. Saint Peterburgs, FL had theirs in the late 1990s. Etc....

I live in a very nice area that is surrounded by scum and villainy. I'm also a cop.... there have been some targeting of law enforcement off duty. I'd rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it. If a riot breaks out my first act is to get the f#@k out of dodge. If not then try to get to the safest place, if thats not possible then I will defend myself.

I am perplexed and kinda shocked that you have to even consider preparing for a sustained assault on yourself. Geeez your a cop and all but its pretty sad that their are people out there would target you in such a manner....

stay safe :thumb:

Ehh.... my friends and I have been the random victims of crime before. Friend was mugged, I've been stalked, another friend had his boat and car blown up, etc.... I haven't made friends in my profession and down here we have a number of high profile drug gangs from South America and they like to target cops. Also my friends aren't everyday citizens. They're mostly all like me.... former Army, Navy, or Marines... most of us have seen combat and most of us work very interesting jobs. Out the majority of my friends... I'm the lame quite one in terms of work.... just a beat cop. Got a couple doing private contracting....

I treat my safety and security and those of my friends and loved ones with a high priority. I rather be loaded for bear when I come across a mouse then be loaded for mouse when I come across a bear..... nothing stops a punk trying to mug me like the muzzle of a .45 ACP pistol shoved against his temple or his innards splayed out on the sidewalk from a good slice from a Karambit. I fight to win and that means I fight dirty, nasty, and mean.

Unfortunately todays world has little in the way of the guts it needs to punish people who attack others, especially people there to help them.
As a Paramedic I've been spat at, punched, kicked, bitten, some one tried to stab me but I was able to disarm them.
A colleague has been stabbed, and I have seen Nurses assaulted by low life scum who virtually get away with it.
Recently a judge actually told a Nurse they should expect to be assaulted as part of their occupation! Obviously none of his relatives are Nurses!

Bloody stupidity. By the way, our paramedics carry their own firearms, they aren't supplied.

We used to carry the big Mag Lights as an informal self defense item, being milled out of aluminium and having anything between 3 to 5 "D" size cells they were pretty hefty and a tap from one of them could discourage an aggressive individual.
It is frowned upon by the powers that be as they don't like the idea of the bad publicity they may get if one of us were to defend themselves with a "weapon".
I did speak with a senior Police officer once who said they believed we should be allowed to carry pepper spray for self defence.
And pigs will fly!

It was plod who got pepper spray and stun guns banned in the UK. The old boys club of ACPO put their oar in. I know this for a fact, I was a firearm dealer at the time, plod paid me a visit to see if I had such items in stock.

The UK used to be a nation of such bad ass folks. Folks that conquered the wilds of Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. A nation in which such names like Enfield, Vickers, and Webley meant tools to defend one's self and the ability to fight the enemy. The idea that if you work hard that you will achieve anything you want. Now it has become a nation of welfare rats and sissies.

I have the utmost respect for those serving in the UK Armed Forces.... but the good folks of the UK need to get the hell out of there and come to the USA. We might be the lost colony over the pond.... but we'll welcome are Brit cousins with open arms (as long as they don't import that socialist crap that is infecting the UK).

I reckon a huge number of us would love to move to the US.

For you maybe, sorry, just I guess you can call me the qoute unqoute "concerned voter".

But yea, even I have a 870 Express Supermag under my bed.

At least you can vote, defend yourself in your home, and you can own a firearm (depending on where in the USA) without nothing more then a quick background check. No permit, registration, police inspections, etc....

The USA is the last bastion of freedom on Earth. My family came here and no where else from Communist Cuba for a reason.

I am not complaining, I do love this country, just see it as my duty to remain an aware and involved citizen.
