His fellow airman's shooting death was first called accidental

A Hickam Air Force Base airman will face an April 23 court-martial for allegedly fatally shooting a fellow airman in Iraq last July.
Airman 1st Class Kyle Dalton of the 15th Security Forces Squadron at Hickam is accused of using a 9 mm handgun to kill Airman 1st Class Carl Jerome Ware Jr., who was in the same Hickam unit.
Dalton's court-martial is scheduled for Langley Air Force Base in Virginia. He is also charged with failure to obey a lawful order and, in connection with a separate incident, an assault where he allegedly drew his loaded weapon on Ware and Airman 1st Class Ryan Gaspar, according to the Air Force charge sheet.
If convicted Dalton faces life in prison, a dishonorable discharge and forfeiture of all pay and allowances, Maj. John Elof, a spokesman at U.S. Central Command Air Forces at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina, said yesterday.
Ware was killed July 1 at Camp Bucca in Iraq. Following the shooting, Ware's parents, Carl and Rosalie Ware, said their son was killed by an airman from his base at Camp Bucca as he made his way back to barracks at the end of his shift. Camp Bucca is an internment center for captured insurgents.
Ware was the first airman from Hickam killed in Iraq. Last year, in reporting the death as a "noncombat-related incident," the Air Force said Ware, 22, had died from the accidental discharge of a gun being cleaned by another airman. No other details were released.
In December, Dalton faced an Article 32 hearing, which is similar to a preliminary hearing, at an undisclosed base in the Persian Gulf. Charges were referred to a court-martial on Jan. 25.
Ware was assigned to the 886th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron at Camp Bucca, which is in the southern part of Iraq and is the largest detention facility overseen by the United States in the country.
Ware enlisted in the Air Force in 2004 after marrying Senior Airman Christine Ware in January 2003. The couple has a daughter, Caity, who was born in July 2005. Christine Ware also was stationed at Hickam when her husband deployed to Iraq.
Carl Ware Jr. was buried in Glassboro, N.J., his wife's hometown.
