BAGHDAD, Nov. 15 -- The U.S. military said on Wednesday that three soldiers and three Marines were killed Tuesday in operations in Iraq's volatile western Anbar province and in Baghdad.
A soldier and three Marines died of wounds suffered in combat in Anbar, the military said in a news release. The soldier was assigned to the 1st Brigade of the 1st Armored Division, and the Marines were with Regimental Combat Team 7, the statement said.
The statement gave no details of the fighting, but Anbar province, heartland of Iraq's Sunni Muslim insurgency, has been the deadliest place in Iraq for U.S. forces.
Two other soldiers were killed Tuesday night when their vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb in northwest Baghdad, the military said. The victims were identified as members of Multinational Division-Baghdad.
At least 2,853 U.S. troops have died in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003. At least 105 U.S. troops were killed in Iraq in October, the deadliest month for U.S. forces since January 2005. At least 41 have been killed so far this month.
