In 1991 a coalition of Allied forces led by the United States began a campaign to eject Iraqi forces from the sovereign country of Kuwait. For the next two months the military forces of the United States, Great Britain, Italy, France, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Egypt and a number of other allies waged perhaps the most successful military campaign of the century against the Iraqi forces occupying Kuwait and against the country of Iraq itself.

The first Allied aircraft attacked Iraqi forces on the night of the 16th of January, 1991. The strikes continued, unabated, until the ground offensive victory on the 28th of February, and the signing of the armistice agreement.

During the campaign the Iraqi forces captured several dozen Allied prisoners, mostly downed aircrew. Some of these aviators and soldiers were captured in the first few days of the conflict, others were captured very near the end. In all, 36 Allied prisoners were repatriated to their home countries in early March 1991. These ex-POWs formed the 5th Allied POW Squadron upon their return home.

This website was created to provide information to the public on the 5th Allied POW Squadron and its members’ role in Desert Storm, and to provide a way for 5th APS members to stay in contact with one another. Please enjoy the site and feel free to add it to your web page links.
