Forty-five years after it defeated a CIA-trained invasion force at the Bay of Pigs, Cuba still sees the United States as the biggest threat to its socialist society. (Claudia Daut/Reuters)

Many aging veterans who hang out at Miami's "Brigade 2506" social club still reminisce about the fateful Cold War days in April 1961 when Cuban forces decimated the CIA-backed volunteers who had expected little resistance.(AFP/File/Miguel Vinas)

Thanks, some folks need to learn and understand what the Cuban people did to try to free their homeland from communist oppression.

Yes the Cubans did try and free there land from Communist oppresion.

With in the hours of the landing the US had underestimated the Communist Forces and with in minutes of the landing Cuban artillery had the Freedom fighters pinned on the beach heads.

But they still fought hard even though outnumbered and outgunned.

Reports came back that they killed upwords of 2,000 commies!

You mean they killed upward of 2,000 Cubans. At that time, I doubt if there were more than a handful of Cubans who would recognize a communist if they tripped over them. These guys were following Castro, ideology be damned. 45 years later, it is still more of a cult of personality than an ideological state. Which is why failing to take advantage of the many lost opportunities to remove Castro contributed to the mess today. And we're making the same mistake with Chavez.
