The body of a Fort Stewart soldier was discovered in his barracks room Saturday night, an installation spokesman confirmed Wednesday.
Army Pvt. Michael A. Bloomquist, 19, was found in his room Saturday evening. Installation spokesman Kevin Larson said the cause of death is still under investigation by military police.
Bloomquist, a combat engineer, was from Momence, Ill. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment in the 3rd Infantry Division's 1st Brigade Combat Team.
According to The Daily Journal in Kankakee, Ill., the soldier was the son of Gene Bloomquist of Lake Village, Ind., and Melissa Humphrey of Momence, Ill.
Larson said Michael Bloomquist joined the Army in July 2008 and arrived at Fort Stewart in December 2008.
He is the second soldier to have died within eight days at the Army installation near Hinesville, which also serves as headquarters for the 3rd ID.
Fort Stewart officials said Spc. William M. Smith, 27, of Statenville, died in his barracks on Jan. 9.
Smith was a National Guard soldier with 1st Battalion, 214th Field Artillery in Waynesboro. Last July 28, he was assigned to Fort Stewart's Warrior Transition Unit, where wounded soldiers get help as they complete medical evaluations and prepare for a return to duty or civilian life. Smith, an ammunition handler, joined the Army in April 2006.
Larson said Wednesday that Smith's cause of death also remains under investigation by military police.
