well, the US does make itself a pretty big target, and those are excellent examples for comparison ( in my opinion )

Britain raised its official donation to $US96 million after a first pledge of $US28 million was overtaken by public donations.

here's another comparison; the NZ govt is matching dollar for dollar donations made by the public. and the RNZAF and NZ army are already on site.

but it seems the public is doing the job that the governments SHOULD be doing;

The United States government is sending 35 million, and it will end up being more than the quoted amount after all is said and done.

That 35 million is the sum total of money left in the emergency relief fund. Additional funds need to be allocated by congress.

Civilians are donating.

The US military has already sent teams to help identify bodies, two teams from a TF are already wheels up. Four more deployed soon. The USS Abraham Lincoln was dispatched, AF C-130s with supplies are already there. And these are just the intial steps.

Personally, I find the article full of ignorant ramblings.

Btw, what exactly are you doing to help, Chewie? I hope you've pledged at least a couple million given some of your comments.

dude don't even start down that road.

i was made redundant six months ago and that was the last of my cash.

i gave it knowing that it would be added to by my govt.

125 000 dead now.

apart from the shit slinging on this forum, doesn't the magnitude of this blow you away? because what i'm picking up from the members i've been debating with is that "it's just the third world, woe is america"

i just want to hear some empathy!

So your point besides bashing POTUS is the US is not doing enough I suppose. Just like the UN Under secretary who opined that the US should raise taxes so we could donate more.

Yeah if we do something we're butting in. If we don't we're selfish. Oh well.

And Clinton can go up a rope.
If your not doing that your raving on about the UN, why dont you just declare war on them, might make yourself feel better.

You started on "that" proverbial road. It seems to me, you are the only one 100% focused on money and politics and pushing your anti-US agenda - and not the tragedy in itself.

Perhaps, if you had bothered to becoming informed on how the allocation of aid money in the US works - you would have a better understanding of what is required to send more.

There is always "more" to do, especially with tragedies such as these. The US could do more, the UK could do more, YOU could do more .. this does not, and will not negate what is and has already been done.
