BAGHDAD, Iraq_Two U.S. Marines assigned to Regimental Combat Team 5 were
killed Sunday in Anbar province as a result of enemy action, coalition
forces said in a statement Monday.

The names of the dead were being withheld until military officials could
contact their families.

More than 2,600 American troops have died in Iraq since the U.S.-led
invasion in March 2003, according to a tally by The Associated Press. At
least 2,100 of that number were killed by hostile action.

Why do they always put in the numbers whenever someone dies? It seems to me they take a macabre kind of glee by printing those numbers any chance they get. I do not mean to detract from the grief the families and friends feel but it just irritates me to no end.

Imagine this happening:

Camp Geiger, NC: US Marine stubs his toe while getting out of his bed! The servicemembers wife was awoken when he cursed but no other injuries were sustained. This is the third such occassion since the clothes hamper was moved.

More than 1,109,002 American troops have been injured in Iraq since the U.S.-led
invasion in March 2003, according to a completely false and unofficial tally by Marinerhodes at Milforums website.

I'm sick and tired of the media referring to our fallen heroes as just numbers. These brave men have made the ultimate sacrifice and they deserve better, a lot better. They have names. Don't report their death until you can report their names. It's just so unbelievably disrespectful.
