A Fort Hood soldier was found dead at his off-post apartment after police went to check on him when he did not show up for duty Tuesday, authorities said.
Police said an autopsy will be performed on the 24-year-old soldier, whose name was not immediately released, to determine how he died.
Abilene soldier dies in Iraq
A Fort Hood soldier from West Texas has died of wounds suffered in a bombing in Iraq.
The Defense Department on Tuesday announced the death of 22-year-old Cpl. Reuben M. Fernandez III of Abilene.
DOD says Fernandez died Saturday of wounds sustained when his vehicle struck an improvised bomb in Majar Al Kabir.
Fernandez was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood.
Six other soldiers from various units have died at Fort Hood in separate incidents since late July, including three found in their barracks. One died in a fire that authorities said they were investigating, and one died of a medical condition. Authorities have not released information on how the other four died.
The sprawling Central Texas Army post just outside Killeen is home to about 52,000 troops.
