In 1896 the United States and Great Britain almost went to war over a border dispute between Britain and Venezuela. What would have happened between the two powerhouses?

I don't think the United states could've done much except naval interdiction and sending some marines to venezuela. I know the US had a choke hold on the region during the time, but Britain's navy outclasses the american's. So there would've been limited fighting, but bear in mind that britain and america had a good relationship at the time, they both would've really hated fighting each other over another country's borders. It probably would've been settled diplomatically at the end anyway.

Well I think that president cleveland would have imposed the Monroe doctrine and had invaded Canada. The US navy was outclassed and that would have left the entire east coast open for bombardment. The situation was resolved diplomaticly. I say that it would have been very brief and quickly made up between the UK and US
