Photo: Lucky Shot of 2 x M109 155mm Shells captured in flight

This is an extremely "lucky shot" I was able to take with my digital camera during a live firing exercise in the North of Norway a few years ago.

2 x M109's from Battery Piraya firing using charge 5 (white bag) and the muzzle velocity is around 360m/s.

The chances of those two guns manually firing at the same time as I was able to take that photo (manually) using my digital camera were extremely slim...

But it became a really nice photo didn't it?

you can do it well if you have the FDC on your headset and the FDC is controling the fire.... that is how i used to do it.

Do you use the laser ignition system on your M109's??
We have the "good old" manual system, so it's not that easy to get simultaneous fire then.

But this is the first (and only) picture I've seen with two shells in the air fired the manual way, so if you have any other ones then I would really like to see them in here as well..

Exceptional timing Red. I've never known anyone to do that before without electronic triggering.

My digital camera has up to half a second lag time which would make it virtually impossible for me.

It's the same with mine, that's why I was really lucky to get that shot..

Really amazing, I would frame something like that. On a high speed camera, sure, but, on a digital camera??? Like I said before amazing. Nice pic!
