What are the statistics for the deaths and casualties from Rome to the surrender in Italy? Especially the Gothic Line campaign.
I am trying to get a handle on how many people paid the price for Mark Clark's decision to "take" Rome and let the German army escape.
If you add to that the casualties at Anzio, Monte Cassino, and the Rapido River - who's sacrifices he squandered - then he has to be one of the worst WW2 commanders.
I just want to get an idea of the scope of the decision.
