Yugoslav "Novi Avion"

I fail to see how FORMER SOCIALIST YUGOSLAVIA, WHICH WAS RAN BY TITO AND WAS COMPOSED OF VARIOUS DIFFERENT BALKAN CULTURES AND PEOPLE had "dubious" technology.

This has got to be the logical flaw of the year.

And yes it's being flown by Burma because all they can afford are... wait for it... CRAP PLANES.

Alright fine so they have 12 MiG-29s...

i think the fact that everyone has an embargo against Burma doesn't help either as that kinda limits there options...

Its not based on either of them, its a Yugoslav design.

Probably would have ended up as good or better than the F-16/Gripen

It´s a Yougoslav design heavily based on the named designs.
And how do you reckon the Yugo version had been better?
A design concieved in the 80,s not upgraded would not have been a more effective platform then either of the other two.

I understand your national pride of a nation that no longer exist, but you will have to keep your arguments at least tolerable to be able to get anyone to debate with you mate.
And no, Yugoslavia under Tito were no utopia, it was better then what came afterwards but it was a far cry from it´s western counterparts at the time.
I have been to the Balkans enough to know mate.

Edit to add: Yes, the F-7,s is a hoplessly dated design.

Alright, I was a bit pissed when I made that comment I admit, but to say it would have been pitiful and useless is a bit of a idiotic thing to say. We had French assistance with it, and I dont think anybody can say that the Mirage fighter's are "CRAP PLANES".

You may have been to the Balkans, but my entire family [Majority at least] has lived through Tito's era of Yugoslavia and they have a very interesting opinion when you ask them to compare Yugoslavia to another western country.

Ill see what they think was bad about Yugoslavia, shall I?

Id block your ears if I were you because what I find out might make you cry.

Boo hoo.

I wouldn´t go that far as to call it pitiful and useless, nor did I..
Thing with foreign assistance on your fighters is that you will rarely get the latest technology from your partner, unless the company,s making it merge.
I haven´t even heard a rumour that dassault would merge with a Yugo company?

Ok, I´ll bite..How many western nations have they been in?
Since I lived in one and worked and travelled to the Balkans I have a pretty good idea about what the place was under Tito and after Tito.
Still a far cry from western nations..

But I WILL give you this.
Out of all the Soviet satelite states. (countries in the Soviet realm of influence) IMHO and limited experience with alot of other countries in the same situation the Yugos were the best run socialistic experiment and the one closest to working.
Well while the dictator was alive that is.

France, Germany, England, Australia [Mainly Australia], Italy, Austria, Switzerland, New Zealand and the USA.

That's not just my family, but all the family members [And family friends] who have lived in Tito's Yugoslavia.

SFR Yugoslavia was not a Soviet Sattelite state, it was a neutral country. Tito was really pissed off at Josef Stalin so the USSR/Yugoslavia were not cosy little friends. Infact Tito was one of the people that started the non-aligned movement.

ive got a question where would you prefer to live in australia or back in Titos
Yugoslavia and base this decision on which country would be actually better to live in...

So you are seriously saying that Yugoslavia were not in the Soviet realm of influence as I stated in my previous post?

Thats a difficult question.

If I traveled back in time to Tito's Yugoslavia it would be more difficult for me because technology wasnt quite as developed then as it is now. Then, nobody had computers or Ipod's or TV [Well they did, but it was seriously different], mobile phones, things like that.

Ive been brought up around those type of things, so suddenly being without them would be rather difficult.

So you are seriously saying that Yugoslavia were not in the Soviet realm of influence as I stated in my previous post?

The Soviet Union never had control over Yugoslavia like it had over countries like Eastern Germany, Bulgaria and Hungary. So yes, I am saying that Yugoslavia was not in the Soviet realm of influence and I am extremely proud to say so.

yugoslavia could achieve things like this plane because the fact is during most of the cold war yugoslavia was getting more financial aid from NATO countries than the whole of africa put together (thats an actual statistic)

the west needed to show the warsaw pact countries what was possible without soviet influence, to convince them to join the west

the reason some people called yugoslavia a socialist paradise was because they didnt work at all, were placed into a job that they couldnt be fired from so they didnt even show up most days

when it was obvious the soviets were fading, the west cut of aid and everyone in yugoslavia was left wondering were all the money went, then they all blamed each other

Mr tito was a hedonist who squandered all the money that was given to him on yachts, feeding workers who in reality were unproductive and the rest was spent on the military and ridiculously unreasonable projects such as this one. no capital was invested in the real economy and thus you end up with things like the "Yugo Automobile". this plane is not a measure of the successes of the yugoslav nation, instead it represents everything that was wrong with it.

Yugoslavia vorked beacuse of loans neutrality and firm hand. Enybody who diesagred would have bean opresed. And yes all things that Danko said are
true but problems where never solwed only deleyed. And its been said "What
you can do todey dont live for tomorov". So they enjoyed while it lested
and when time have come for paying the debts evrybody where angry beacuse of pain landing that hard have cosed. Old problems reached the surfice. And people who wanted power used this and tryed to achive somthing, ironcly enough together, but couldunt reach agrements and started
war toghtether but didnt finished it togheter. So war endend after salling evrythyng to each other and geting waht they want. Rest of us geten nothing
whyle war leders goten money power and control of their very own country. So wath could have been agian didnt work out. Any way it goten worse agian in our history what a suprise.
