Jamal Ahmed al-Badawi, convicted of playing a main role in planning the 2000 bombing of the United States destroyer Cole, was back in custody after a negotiated surrender, the authorities said. He was among a group of operatives from Al Qaeda who escaped from a heavily guarded prison in Sana in last year, where he was serving a 15-year sentence.
