Yeah, actually that theory first came about in a book by a French author in 2002. Since then his book has become a bestseller in Europe and many europens including a statlingly high percentage of Frenchmen actually do believe that the CIA attacked the twin towers. Well I live in NYC and I can tell you that almost nobody here thinks anything of the kind

We have no illusions over what happened and who did it

Even those almost fully on the Howard Dean express understand reality at that level

And this is one of the things that makes me understand why, considering the popularity of such idiocy in places like France, being liked and respected by such folks really isn't too high on my list of what I give a good G-ddamn about

A lot of these "surveys" etc. are completely made up to try to use them to convince others.
Like you go to some guy in some odd town out there in a non-US country and tell them that the CIA did the 9/11 attacks and they go, "yeah right." and then say that 70% of the Americans believe this as well, then they go "hmmm then you have a point..."

As for the future, who knows, maybe the rise of other powers will be a good thing. For America it will be another opportunity to be seen as a force of good. For the others on the rise it would be for having so much more control over their destinies... easier access to resources etc.

These sorts of predictions are usually wrong so I would get over it!

My gut feeling is that in 15 years time the US will be less gung-ho in military matters, show more respect for international law and the UN, it will be making sqillions in countries it has brought "freedom" to and
terrorism will be about the same in various places about the globe as it is now.

& MacDonald's will have a store open in the "Green Zone", Baghdad.
