1) religious rivarly and the fact that there are still many conflicts( armed) between religions
2) india isnt all democratic...... its like south korea, but on a larger basis
3) india has alot... alot of umployment
4) indias population will outburst its own land( they dont have one child policy)
5) India relies on the moonsoon seasons for food since their land is very dry and alot of it is on mountain plateau where water is scarce, thereby if the world climate changes india will be hit hard
6) terriosm still occurs in india, not these days though
7)indias inferastructure is really in a bad shape, though their trains are top of the line efficient ( a couple thousand could board one train at once)
8) war with pakastan is probaly going to continue
9) inefficient military, tiny amount of experience for troops, and their generals along with their military history has seen little conventional warefare
10) water is very scarse like i said, but another point is that their average drinking amount is 1/5 of world standard, imagine a drought..............................
11) india has little pertrolum resources
12) india is predicetd to be very heavily polluted

We keep the law because we know that we do need to discipline disorderly children. Works usually. However there are probably one too many cases of not only the children, but this leniency in the law that is being abused.
South Korea has changed since 1989 and btw, Roh Tae-woo was elected democratically. Which was ironic because he was a General that was lined up to be the next dictator. The problem was the opposition couldn't decide who was going to run and their votes got split. But Kim Young-sam was without a doubt democratically elected. So was Kim Dae-jung and Noh Mu-hyun.
And the military's changed. I don't see another military coup happening.

the militarys pretty much in the hands of the new cabinet now.... now no dictator or ruler will have complete control of the army
the south koreans should build up their navy, maybe one day to fight aginist the Japanese

For South Korea, the navy is not really a key priority.
North Korea's a threat on the ground, not in the sea. And if China becomes a threat, the main threat will be from land and also in the air.
South Korea has no intention on fighting against Japan and the two countries are not enemies anymore (though anti-Japanese sentiment does run high). The future seems more and more like a South Korea-Japanese friendship relationship.
Those of us who are concerened about our neighbors other than North Korea are concerned about China.

ROFLS, its japan that should be worried, china would never invade another country ( taiwan is not a country, and the east china sea islands as well as the osuth china sea islands belong to china) because china is too comfortable in its warm and great nest...
Japans navy is to be worried about, their navy has the navy power ( not air power) of almost a us carrier group... though the japanese army should be ignored: its gonna get its ass kicked
um.... why go aginist china??? we chinese are good people, we are the victims man, of many invasions and things, and now u dont want to see the chiense live better life???? what are you, racist???

Actually the tons of Singaporean, Malaysian, Taiwanese Chinese can tell you no. What about you and the Japanese? What are you? Racist???
China not invade its neighbors? What about Tibet? What about India? What about Vietnam? Are those not countries as well?
Just stay out of all our back yards thank you very much.
Oh crap it's gone off topic.
Asia in itself is too broad of a term.
In SOUTH ASIA and the Indian Ocean, India should become a major power. Also potentially in Central Asia. But not in East Asia and probably only to the indian Ocean side of Southeast Asia. There's simply too much competition.
