Let's put it this way: Do you really think Poland would be stupid enough to start a conflict with a country that they knew was way more powerful than they were, even with a promise of French and British help?

Jap BIG mistake, a united massive strike after that action would have ended the war in some month- but that is utopic (Utopie in german- dunno if it's correct like this in english)

They didn't officially start it and I don't think Hitler wanted a war, just his own way. He didn't expect Britain and France to declare war over Poland.

Agreed, at least Hitler started it. Although, I am not sure how much the Japanese and Italians wanted it started as well. If Germany didn't try to fight two wars at same time, I think we possibly could be speaking German today. Although, I wonder if Germany had won ( can't believe I wrote one, I'm a stunod), would they have eventually fought Japan as well for total control?

The German Army in 1939 was not way more powerful than the Polish army, at least in terms of numbers. The Polish army was the 4th largest standing army in the world (only the Soviet, French and German armies were larger) and German tactics had not yet been worked through properly - there were plenty of shortcomings. The Poles actually regarded the Soviets as a bigger threat than Germany.

Where Germany really was more powerful was in airpower.
