what medals and ribbons do YOU have?

All the info I recieved came from St Louis ( MPRC)
---------------
Missileer I'm sorry if this thread is going off track that was not my intention.

Well, it seems to be still on track, you can ask questions in the thread if they are on topic. By the way, I meant to say I was in from 1962-1965, not 1992-1995.:shoothea:
If the St. Louis records show you were awarded a medal, badge, ribbon, or whatever, that's as far as you can go.

The ribbons are as follows:
Top row: Swedish Armed Forces Basic Training, Swedish Armed Forces Medal for International Service (2 times), Kronobergarnas Drill Corps
Second row: US Army Good Conduct Medal, NATO Kosovo Medal (2 times), DanCon March (Danish Contingent March)

Update: NATO Non Article 5 (Not in picture (yet))

There's still something fishy, though -- NDSM is only awarded for defined periods of time, and only for active-duty personnel. If you never saw active duty, then you shouldn't have been awarded the NDSM. Unless your unit was activated at some point...?

Well all I can say is that I was awarded the NDSM during Desert Storm. I was in the National Guard and not on active duty nor did my unit get mobilized. It's on my DD-214 so it's official.

If I recall correctly: If you have served for 1+ months I believe you rate the GWOT (service) medal. If you have deployed for 30+ days in support of OIF or OEF you rate the GWOT (Expeditionary).

The appropriate Campaign Medal supercedes the GWOT Expeditionary. If one is issued for the area to which you deploy.

I personnally don't have any but my Stepdad's father had the expert qualification badges for rifle and grenade and I'm not sure what it's called exactly but it was the NCO of the year or something close to that when he was a staff sergeant in the army in the 70's or 80's.

The only Medals you get in the UK are combat or bravery. The only odd exception is the long service and good conduct medal, and if you are lucky a special issue of a the Queens jubilee medal. A freind of mine spent 12 years on active service and got just two medals [General Service Medal] with a row of clasps on each one to show where he had fought.

Le- the long service and good conduct medal, for 20 good years, used to known as the Rootie- Gong among soldiers, did it not?

No need to read my input, please just skip over this if you wish. But it's kinda neat to know that there are people here that have been part of recent history, names like Kosovo, Desert Storm will soon reach the ten year mark, then the twenty, and so on and so on, only to appear in the black and white of the words of history books, and encyclopedias.

You guys have made your make on human history, just, it must have been kind of special to think, wow, I have been there....

In order, junior to senior, without looking at them i might goof. Sea Service Deployment Ribbonx2, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal,War on terror Expeditionary, War On Terror Support, the "ain't been caught" Good Conductx2, National Defense, Meritorious Unit Citationx2,Navy Unit Citation,Naval Achievement medal, and my favorite, the Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist Device.

It's amazing, really, how many JROTC awards you can get. If your uniform is hanging down because of the weight of all your trash, you should probably wear just the first three...

no real ones yet!. but for rotc before i quit i had.

Superior Performance,Good Conduct (Psh), Longevity, Community Service, Activities, Physical Fitness, Honor Flight, Academic, Rifle team, Drill Team, Colorguard. and some other Shiz cant remember.

Here's mine:
Amphibious Raid Qualification badge.
Threat to imprison.
Threat to transfer to some loser unit.
Invitation to OCS.

Personally don't care about medals much. My job, what me and my guys did... that was the reward.

I have loads of NJ ROTC ribbons, to many, it's a pain to put them on. Here they are as from lowest to highest:

Navy Surface Association Honor Cadet, Sea Cruise, Mini Boot Camp, Orienteering,Rifle Team,Community Service,Unit Service, Participation,Physical Fitness,Academic Award,Exemplary Conduct,NS 1 outstanding cadet,Aptitude, Unit Achievement, Honor Cadet.

I qualify for Community service, participation, and unit service and orienteering, academic award, as well as physical fitness multiple times, so I have stars or lamps on them.

Ironically I only have two medals, One is second place at a orienteering match, and the other a Area 12 NJ ROTC Academics championship medal.(not as hot a it sounds)

I know this sounds like I am showing off, but when I get hopefully into the REAL U.S. Navy, I am not going just for ribbons and medals.

If you think the real military/training is anything but, you're going to be sorely disappointed.

/Exaggerating...a little.

ha, well lets put it this way, in JROTC thats the only way you get much.

So I am a suck up?

I do what I am supposed to not to get what I want, but because it is what you are supposed to do, If you ask me about JROTC ribbons, I will tell ya, I don't think half of em have a purpose to exist. Why get a ribbon or medal something that you should be doing in the first place?

LOL...i now have my "Second Lebanon War" pin....had to get one cause i was afraid someone will notice me not wearing it and ill get punished.
