Special interests and an overall "victim" mentality of the common American citizen thinking they are "owed" something and that the government needs to pay for it... and Americans bent over and took it. Its the "salami effect" just increasing in small enough dosages so that no one objects but cumulatively this is what you end up with. Same thing they are doing now with our rights.
"The purpose of fighting is to win. There is no possible victory in defense. The sword is more important than the shield and skill is more important than either. The final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental." - John Steinbeck Last edited by bulldogg; December 6th, 2005 at 06:13.. |

I think Sam Adams is with you on this one TomTom "For if our trade may be taxed, why not our lands? Why not the produce of our lands and, in short, everything we possess or make use of?" Samuel Adams May 24, 1764 here is a little piece i did on war and taxes. I believe they are related The history of taxes and war "The best form of taking care of troops is first-class training, for this saves unnecessary casualties." Erwin Rommel |

Well to stick up for the government a little bit... Congress can only give so much funding for the war in Iraq, the extra cash has to come from somewhere... and anyway, one hundred years ago was a long time. Our population wasnt as high back then, we didnt have as many vehicles to put taxes on, we didnt have alot of the stuff we have now that the government has put taxes on...
