Post; Vietnam Memorial Wall Defaced This Weekend (September 7-9, 2007)

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1893742/posts

Mrs. Trooprally called me this evening to tell me that she and her husband, as well as Concretebob, saw damage along almost the entire length of the Vietnam Memorial Wall. They found this damage this morning, when they walked through the area before participating in the September 11th Freedom Walk.

Concretebob was told by a National Park Service employee that the damage was done on Friday night. There was no police report taken or written about the vandalism, apparently. And the damage was still very much there today.

Here are a few of the photos that Mrs. Trooprally took this morning...
This first one is not so noticeable, but as they walked into the center, it got worse.

It looks like the person who did this walked along The Wall with some type of container, perhaps hidden at their side so that they could squirt the oily substance without being caught in the act.

The names along the lower part of The Wall appear to have taken the brunt of the damage.

Because of the reflective nature of The Wall, Mrs. Trooprally had a tough time capturing the extent of the damage. Mr. Trooprally said that the oily substance has discolored the shiny stone, but that it has been absorbed into the more porous area where the names are etched into The Wall.

Pick a topic and stay on it. 03

but slightly off topic;

lol @ the posts you linked to....what a pack of idiots. blaming socialists, "anti-american libs" and suggesting "re-education camps" with out one shred of evidence about who did it, why they did it or even if it was deliberate or not

True, It is disgusting, but one mishandled or mislaid nuke and there may well be no wall, nor several square miles of city to go around it.

The liquid appears to be clear and is described as being oily. It seems that it is only along the lower parts of the wall, generally I would say that it is not part of a planned attack on the wall but more likely that it was a crime of opportunity. If real damage was meant to be done there are so many other things that could have been used, Xxxx acid, paint, animal blood, .. you name it.

A wash with gentle detergent and warm water will probably remove all traces, except perhaps where it has soaked into the concrete. that could be treated with talc then water blasting.

I sincerely hope that it can be cleaned.

But in reality, I wouldnt have cared if it was toothpaste. The intent of the person was to deface the monument and disrespect the people it pays tribute to. IMO the true damage was done, regardless of repair cost.

I'll wait for the FBI Report as to what the substance was, could have been a Baby in a stroller grabed some Baby Oil and squarted it over the side.... or, could have been an Amputee having some sort of a malfunction with their hydraulic limb.

I certainly hope that you are right Gator.

Unfortunately the world seems to be moving in a direction where nothing surprises me any more.

Gator, I think it was some wiseass trying to make a statement. Don't they have any CCTV watching that monument.
If it was just on one part of the wall and there was more spilt away from the wall itself than on the wall then it could be an accident but this looks pretty well aimed.
Very unfortunate.

I'm afraid this type of crap happens all the time. It's an example of pure and simple ignorance. Some idiots try to use the names of these fallen heroes for a political cause. These simpletons can't even muster up enough respect to let the dead rest in peace. It's really quite sad.

I truly hope that you're right gator, but I think that you're not.
