Well, I guess it's real then.
I remember during Christmas in Belgium a few years back some kids stole small figurines of Mother Mary and Jesus from a replica of the place Jesus was born in as some kind of protest against religion.
Stuff like this happens. Immature *******s...

There are enough anti-war organizations out there to have done something like this. It really looks like a prank that an attempt to deface the memorial. A hammer and chisel would have hacked me off more.

Most of the protesters are too young to realize what and who the memorial was put there for. The people's whose names are on the Wall were about the same age as the protesters are now and they darn sure didn't have anything to do with starting the war it symbolizes.

The problem we have is that this story is no further on than it was yesterday, we could all see that an oily substance had been spread and we were arguing whether it had been an intentional attack on the monument or not which is exactly what the park police are also trying to determine.

ie.
Quote:
The U.S. Park Police are investigating suspected vandalism at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the Mall.
Quote:
The substance "could have been from a variety of different products," and it is not clear whether it was spread intentionally, said Sgt. Robert LaChance, Park Police spokesman.
Quote:
"We are investigating to see if there was any criminal act or if it was an accident," Sgt. LaChance said. "We don't have any indication that it was intentional, but we are investigating to see if it's a possibility."
So at this point all we know for certain is exactly what what we knew yesterday and until the police conclude their investigation that is all we will know.

Basically I was waiting for some other news source to confirm that it indeed happened. Come on Monty, it runs a good length of the damn memorial and apparently the thing isn't water or else it would have evaporated before anyone noticed. Certainly before any investigator showed up.
If there was a small spill on one part of the memorial, it's possibly an accident. Something running a good stretch of it, that's about an accident as is a suicide with three bullet holes in the head from a revolver.

One would think the U.S. Park Police would check the data from the CCTV Cameras and see just who did what where and why, also it being US Federal Property one would think the FBI would know by now just what the substance in question was.

The one reservation I have is... did the Washington Times run this article after finding that other link on the internet? Things like this have happened before.
And you're right Gator, there are some details that are missing that is somewhat fishy. Do we have a Washington DC correspondent in the house?
