You wonder whether or not it's actually worth defending the public. You know... let them feel some pressure for a while.

I still cannot determine if it was negligence or deliberate. If it was deliberate, the people who did it didn't do a very good job. They would have used paint, or something more damaging...

More likely, somebody spilled something....

I get this question a lot. I am from NYC. I fly a French flag because I work for the Paris Office of a International company.

If there was stain on only one part of the memorial I would think that would be the likely scenario but we have this thing going a good length of the memorial and its pretty consistent with other defacing works done to other memorials around the country. I wouldn't say this was an accident.

2 months ago, a leftie group led by Cindy Sheehan threatened to spray paint on the Vietnam Wall and this threat resulted the "Gathering Of Eagles" to get together and protect the wall.

In South Korea, ex-Marines take turns guarding the Douglas MacArthur memorial to make sure anti-American individuals or mobs don't come and deface it in any way.

I will never understand someone's reasoning for doing such things. There was a Civil War monument that was defaced in Maine during an anti war/iraq rally. Someone painted a weed leaf on it with green spray paint. Yeah, thats a great way to spread your message

There are many people around who have the idea that life is not fair to them, but there again life was not fair to the young men that fell for their countries values. This is the sort of thing you expect to happen but it has happening more and more often all over the world. The trouble is cheap air travel allows nuts from all over the world to move around easily and create problems were there have never been problems before and leave before they can be traced.

Don't try and intentionally misquote me, you know what I meant.

yes well I missed that part, obviously if it was along the entire monument that changes everything.

Post; A juvenile message ...

IF this is an individual that believes he can send a 'political' message by defacing a memorial - he is wrong ... the ONLY thing he have accomplished is to show how juvenile he is. It doesn't approach the level of burning a flag ... but ... it is very close.

I realise we fought in theaters of war all over the world to protect people's right to protest and to speak their minds ... however ... this incident feels/seems to be more in the vein of pure vandalism. If/when the perpetrator is discovered, he should be required to clean/polish the monument every weekend for a year ... maybe he will learn a lesson.

It surprises me that the person that did this wasn't spotted ... I have been at the memorial at various times of the day and night and there have always been others there at the same time I was ... you'd think there would have been someone who witnessed this desecration.
