Post; The Vasque Country

The vasque society have always been intregreted in the society and developing of the spanish nation, may be not like others(cantabros and astures who almost disapeared fightinhg the romans and arabs), but they contrubuted and a lot, for example, many of the colonizators of America were Vasque.

The vasque nacionalism began with sabino arana in 1900 when he founded the PNV( Vasque Nacionalist Party). His ideology was based in two ideas:

-racism. the superiority of the vasque race.(sic)
-the right of vasque for independence due to their differential caracters
-own language

In the late 60s the terrorist group ETA( Euskadi ta Askatasuna) was creates to fight the repression of Franco(he forbiden the use of the vasque language),but science Spain is a democratic nation their fight have no sense. They have a Marxist-Lennist idealogy.
Science the 60s they have killed almost 1000 people:militar, policeman and civilians. As they say, the reason of thei´r fight is to liberate the vasque of the opression of the spanish and to create a socialist state called Eukal Herria. This country will also include a part of the south of France that they call Iparralde.

The realation betewen ETA and the PNV are well known. They have the same porpouse but different ways to reach it: the independance.
There have been also many relations beteween ETA and islamic terrorist. Actually ETA tried to use the same sistem as the terrorist of the 11-M did just a couple of months before, coincidence???
Never know.

I guess that's more or less true.
I did a report on the Basques in high school.

By the way it's Basque in English. I believe Vasco in Spanish?

Well.. the Spanish V sounds pretty much like a B anyways.

As an outsider that never spent enough time in Spain or set foot in Basque country (Pays Vasco ) it's hard for me to suddenly draw lines. But I think it's right that they just stay with Spain. I think the majority of the Basques want to stay with Spain anyhow and it's not like the other regions of Spain are completely Castellano in terms of language or customs anyway. I know the Basques are even MORE different... heck their language doesn't even resemble the Indo-European language thing. The origins unsure etc.

Then again there are so many independence movements in Europe... like in Belgium, also with Catalunya in Spain itself again... also talks of northern Italy going its own way though that's less serious. I've spent time in Belgium and wrote a paper project on it in university but I never got that serious with the Basque situation... so again I can't REALLY say.

Actually in Spain we have many language and some dialects. In Spain there are this languages: Castellano,Catalán,Euskera y Gallego.
We also have this dialects:Bable,Valenciano y Mallorquín.

There are also independant movements in Galicia(north-west),Valencia and Baleares. If all this people get independent Spain will disapear...but it will never happen,I hope....
I think that nacionalism are very dangerous,we just have to look to europe´s recent past....

Well Spain's actions after the train bombing sure gave the Basques hope. You barter with terrorists and every terrorist is at your door.

Actually science a year ago ETA has killed no body, probably because they did not have the ocasion, they are almost dead. Right now they are negociating with the state, confidentialy but they are. the elections are close(april) and their political party needs votes.....

Interesting double standard you have there. Okay for you to "extinguish" Basques but the US is wrong to seek to eliminate terrorists?
